Do you feel the rod lock into a detent when you shift it forward? If not, the detent might be bad, broken spring. It is under a hex plug, consists of a ball, plunger, and spring. take the plug out and the spring is the first thing you will get out of the hole. If that is not it, you might have a...
My son and I call complaints like this the result of the "pussyfication" of America that seems to be happening in so many places.
Bjorn: Thanks for the info about Saturn and the oil hose.
Regards Marti
It has been a couple of years since we changed one, but I believe the transmission on the 5 ton has a larger input shaft, making the disk center different.

Another good one was when my friend and I got a 2 wheel drive pickup stuck on a big rabbit hunting trip. We did the jacking and boards under the wheels trick. We were working on the last front wheel, had the corner up high on the bumper jack, and I was just done putting the last board under the...
I found out the hard way a winch does not always help. I was in the woods with my M-37 getting a load of wood. After I had a nice load on it, I started out and fell into a soft spot. I had a big smile on my face as I pulled out the winch cable to a nearby tree, knowing this was going to be fun...
There is one rubber oil line hose for all Multifuel owners to keep a watch on. It is on the left front of the engine running from the engine block to the underside of the front drive housing of the injection pump. You can see it by looking over the top of the front housing of the pump toward the...
Remove one of the link pins, pull the transfer shift rod all the way forward until it clicks into the detents, then drive the truck to see if it still pops out. If it does not, you need to change the link length. If it does, there is a problem in the transfer case.
Regards Marti
The transfer is geared such that the rear wheels have to slip a certain percentage before the automatic, sprag engaged front axle drive kicks in. As Recovery 4x4 said, the axle gearings are all the same.

Attached are pictures of the hitches we fabricate for our trucks, both deuces and five tons for pulling trailers, farm wagons, and the occasional mobile home. They will hold everything the truck is capable of moving.

My 4A032 manual says to use OE/HDO 30 oil for temps above 32 degrees F. I assume, correct me if wrong, that means Oil, Engine, High Detergent Oil, 30 weight. I also have military oil information that says for operation from +5 degrees F multigrade 15W40 can be used in lieu of OE/HDO 30. We are...
We stay with the silicone fluid even though it is more expensive. We love it because it preserves systems where normal brake fluid collects moisture and junks the whole system with idle time or just normal intermittent usage. We feel silicone saves money in the long run, especially if you...
You will not hurt for power. The multifuel moves my 5 ton wrecker, which weighs approximately 36,000 pounds down the road with no problem. We have the fuel turned up. We do that on all of our trucks because the military seems to set them so low it costs a lot of performance. We have a 5 ton dump...
Welcome, Farmun! These are great farm trucks. I have used the ones I have for years on my farm and to help out neighbors. When the neighbors get hopelessly stuck, they call for my wrecker. Lots of fun, too!
Enjoy your truck. a great father/son project. See how the hobby grows on you; you are...
I believe you can put the 7.50 tires on the rims with no problem. I pull one of these behind my Dodge Cummins one ton single wheel truck and find it to be a pleasure to pull. I flipped the lunette eye also to change the ride height, and raised my hitch a bit. I left all of the springs in because...
The gasser is a 331 cubic inch engine, the diesels are 478 cubes. Nuff said in the power department??!! I find the gassers to be in no way comparable to what a multifuel turned up will do. It depends on what you want the truck to do. If you want it because it is representative of the earlier...
The sprag is controlled by a valve on the trans tower and an air cylinder on the front of the transfer case. The sprag is shifted in the forward drive position in neutral and any forward gear. It is shifted to reverse drive only when in reverse in the trans. Build up air pressure in the truck...
This kind of thing is done by Kinze Manufacturing for farm wagons. They have a kit for putting a truck axle under the rear of the gravity wagon, then a drive line that goes up to the tractor PTO to drive the wagon axle in soft fields.
Regards Marti
I called Memphis Equip and Sam Winer Motors but neither has anything. They have no hopes of seeing any ever again, the supply lines they used are dried up. They recommend putting a 24 volt electric outside the tank pump on them. You could probably fashion a pickup tube into the tank under your...
I want to add to my last post, nice truck!!! I, too hope it runs. Odds are it will. If you are like us, you will wonder what you did without it, and a lot we do is safer with it as opposed to lifting with a Payloader or backhoe in the past.
