I disagree with the stated premise. By the same logic, I guess you should not carry any tools around with you for a roadside repair, since repairs are supposed to be done in shops.

I am not familiar with that. I do know that other forums that use the same software as SS sell apps, and they work pretty good (easy access to subscribed threads, for example).

A soda blaster will take the paint off the tires without hurting the rubber, and is gentle enough to not kill the paint on the wheels if you 'oops' a bit.
