M101 inside M105?
Been there, got the T-shirt..... the 101 has to be loaded facing backwards, with the 101 tires in front of the wheel wells on the 105, or you will have positive tongue weight on the 105, also the 105 has to have the side rails removed. I've got pics I can post when I get home. -

Gear ratio for M1008.
Well...... The 1008's, and 1028"s were meant to tow trailers and and carry heavy loads, and since your looking at an engine that only makes 150hp/250lbft of torque.....it makes sense that they would gear it low.... Convoy speed is what, 45/50 mph? -
