As I drove around town today, getting a new Director's Certificate from the ADOT smog station, I reflected on all the mods I have made to the truck. Some stuff we do makes no difference, some stuff makes things worse, but here is a list of mods that I am really, really glad I did:
Upgrade the...
Not an RV, rather, a Commercial Vehicle. You see, in AZ anything one-ton payload and up is commercial. No matter that it has only 2 axles. You get to choose what the vehicle GVW is, with 8000 lbs being the minimum. The weight fee portion of the registration is based off that.. When the inspector...
This site has evolved for the better over the years: there is much more tolerance for innovation, re-purposing, and modernizing. I once was told here that , by deviating from stock factory as-issued condition I was being disrespectful to the memory of servicmen. Ouch. I do not miss those days.
Cab bushings...drill + holesaw...viola! Should be OK through temperature extremes, because, well, they are all-season radials ;)

Mocking up side mount spares using MRAP tire carrier upgrade kits. Too bad the LMTV wheels do not fit, bummer. Will have to come up with some kind of adapter for Plan B, or a Plan C ?
The pictured aftermarket with the external shock will not clear the bigger tires. I suppose I could calculate the correct rate/travel of a coil-over, then install something close to that, then take it out when it does not work and try other ones until I find one that DOES work.....
So the roll bar got a splash of color. And I center mounted a better crane. This one I can operate from the ground, and the boom extends much farther than the HF crane that was replaced. The crane mounts to re-purposed lifting extensions from the rear, mounted between the frame rails.
Hillbilly hack : I got a set of magnetic tow lights from HF. With a coupon nearly free. Plugged into the round trailer connector= done. This works for the trail, as I can unplug + unstick the entire assembly and store out of the way.
