Just shooting from the hip here:
Captured spring designs are for durable and reasonable stiff boxes. Even if you put that box on another subframe, you need to ask yourself how durable and torsion resistant that box is. Every spring mounted torsion free frame will have some twist.
Those welds...
That was my guess.
The switch has circuitry in it. Maybe it is burned out. My truck came with your style switch and was swapped to manual due to a failure.

Kieth,
I think you need more practice fabricating parts. Luckily, I have a list of things that need built and I am happy to help you out! [emoji1787]

Just FYSA, I bought a set of these and there are two things I found out…..
1. You can buy direct from the manufacturer and they gave me a discount and also give vets, etc discounts (not a vet, but close enough). Just ask….
2. The top step did not line up right for my application. If you count...
Maybe it would be good for those on here with differing beliefs to work together to come up with a reasonably repeatable range of easy tests to determine what an actual difference is made under various specific load conditions.

Cost aside….. I think the ideal solution would be a two speed transfer case.
I have an old automatic Toyota with a two speed transfer case that I used to off-road. (I know…apples- oranges), but I will will say I was always glad I had the low range when off-road. That is especially true with...
