    Old style are old school, like 1930's technology and rely on compression to seal oil and coolant passages. the new style are like FelPro type gaskets, the oil and water passages are grommeted for sealing. They also do not require re torqueing.

    Put a DVOM on the fuel shut off. With the engine running, there should be battery voltage at the terminal. When you shut it off the voltage should go away. If it stays there, there is an issue in the chassis wiring, if the voltage goes away and it is still running, the shut off solenoid is junk...

    There is a tag on top of the pump that tells exactly what it is to a qualified person. Remove the pump, a few lines, the linkage and 4 bolts, and have it repaired.

    You do not need to mess with that "filter". The ONLY reason it is there is to catch debris from an internal pump failure so the pump pieces don't go into the injectors. It is not a maintenance thing.

    Nope, it is blue and mixes with everything. DexCool is bad stuff. The stat seals on my duramax were like goo when I changed them. FG went back in. If you can find it, use Fleetguard. I am still using it daily for repairs to top off systems filled with all other ELC stuff.

    Stay away from the red/orange elc stuff, it will, in time eat, make soft, attack rubber parts in the system, on the 855, mostly the water rail components and the radiator tank gaskets, depending on how old they are.     THAT it not a good thing. Ever see what happens when you use too much starting fluid? It turns the carbon soft, it gets pushed down into the ring lands, re solidifies and then you have stuck rings, no compression. A little goes a long way. If one of these pigs won't light, there is an issue...

    The primer pump is rebuildable, just a few o-rings. OP, hold the throttle to the floor and crank it. It will lite if all you did was change the filter....unless you messed up an o-ring on the can, but when you pressurized the tank you should have had a leak if the ring rolled.
