Just to be clear, I wasn't criticizing your crane. I'm digging it. I have a HF engine hoist that I would mount but, it doesn't swivel. I could make a swivel ... but, anyway, that's a different thread.
The bending of it is what reminded me about putting it in the drivers side front corner. And...
I have a question for everyone who installed any kind of crane, large hydraulic down to a 1000 lb Harbor Freight model.
I see most everyone mounts it in the back of the bed. Why? Isn't that restricting (slightly or moderately) what you can load in there? There is a convenience factor. I can...
Two ways.
1. Buy a can of the color spray paint you want. Ask for a mixing stick from the paint desk, spray the stick and say "match this please"
2. Don't buy the can, but refer to actions detailed in "1"
they will blow dry it and make your paint for you!
I am a student of Coffey's school of satin paint. Thanks for that hint, by the way. I have been doing mine satin ever since. (Just a trailer and a black bumper. But, they still look awesome.)
Also, I have been mixing my own. The current camo green has way too much yellow in it for my taste, so...
FYI I keep a bottle of 50:50 acetone and ATF in a spray bottle in the garage. Gun cleaner, and penetrating oil, it is as good as some say. It works. I guess the acetone lowers to viscocity to nothing.
Interesting note, acetones boiling point is very low 132.8 you can watch it boil off if you...
Both of those are the way forward for sure.
I am building a special custom front winch bumper for the 931A2 and two 923A2's. I like your bumper setup. Nice lines and a lot of 1/2"(?) steel. My design is a bit different, but may borrow some ideas off your truck if you don't mind.
Me too! Both alternators on my trucks went out within a few months. Luckily I had planned to change the other one so I ordered 3 from him (one for a friend too).
which spring did you remove? If it was second from top, I would think it would make a bigger difference than second from bottom. Taking out every other spring starting at 2nd from top (remove 2 or 3) I think, should make a difference. If possible shortening the ones on bottom would make a...
Here is an idea. Follow me on this. And don't try to criticize the plan until you read the entire thing!
measure the amount of travel the springs give over the course of a 30 - 60 mile drive on-road. Determine how much flex happens in normal driving. Write that number down. (It can be done...
Brilliant! Yet so obvious. May be the best answer so far.
"Take it to a suspension shop and let them do it, because they know what they are doing!"
They can provide you with documentation of the change in carrying capacity, which could effect registration and drivers license requirements.
Right! I think there were some misunderstandings in reference to blocks. Everyone had valid points, but, nobody was on the same page.
No, I never considered blocks for all the reasons stated. Other than the springs themselves as a really long block.
i was planning on a plasma cutter. But, didn't think they would break. I did think it would effect the temper of them, but not that severely. Good to know. I think you are right, say, cutting the last three short, like the last and smallest one, would in effect, be a giant "block" allowing the...
There is ONE GUY there who acts this way. I butted heads with him over the smallest issue. I'd bet this is who you spoke with. Hang up, call back until you get someone else. This one guy is the opposite from what I have experienced there.
They have been super easy to deal with in this regard...
Something I noticed while driving yesterday, and trying to pay attention to the movements that I want to dampen, is that it's not necessarily the up and down motion that beats you up, there is a forward and backward "bucking" that you don't really notice unless you are paying attention, that...
Yep, me too. It should almost go without saying that this is a given. It's a big truck, you gotta think big.
In my first post, I floated an idea, that I still believe is viable. I would remove a couple springs and render them useless by making cuts in them, X's or cut out small circles...
You can always wear additional layers in the winter, but there comes a point, in the summer where it is just not appropriate to take any more layers off.
Thanks for the tip on the foil sealant. I may give that a try. I have a truck that's only got a drivers seat and a center console that I built. Now is the perfect time to install that foil tape and stall mat.
