Need the higher pressure secondary relief valve. That was a supercession on the Army side due to nuisance opening and weak springs over time. The 370 map exposes this problem in a hurry due to the open path between the intercooler pipe and the dryer when the unload pistons prop open the intake...
Right. The HEUI filter is a contingency. And good in case some small particulate makes it through. My point is that if enough shit got into it (talking many, many thousands of particulates) that servicing it became a necessity then the engine is already screwed and thus access to it (ever...
I'm convinced of the issue but not the need to flatten the cooler *in all cases* - there may be some extreme cases where replacement or machining could be warranted and I think CAT does publish a flatness spec...... I think primarily the issue was resolved with the new style metal embossed...
Hopefully it hits 62 mph (100 KPH is the magic target) like it's supposed to. That should be it's gear limit with the engine at redline. The A1 trucks usually have no issue hitting that due to their enhanced power and slightly higher redline.
I have seen the manual battery disconnect switches fail - had one fail on a fairly new HEMTT not long ago. Stumped the guys at the base - TM did not include voltage drop tests (basically never does) so the troubleshooting tree would have never got them there. Old school troubleshooting by...
You don't want to over-cool any of the fluids - around 212 degrees Freedom - hovering +/-10 degrees around that is generally ideal since that efficiently vaporizes moisture from condensation and any fuel that's entered the oil. The cooler you go the longer I takes to drive moisture and fuel out...
All degrees of preparedness. Block heat, battery heat, Webasto, etc - all require time. If my phone just alerted me that the local volcano is rumbling I'm not really inclined to sit around waiting for my block heater.
And yeah Ether is the answer and I have that too but for the A1+ trucks the...
The 100A draw of the grid heater is a LOT for two batteries on top of the starter - especially flooded wet cell batteries which take a HARD hit in the cold. You flip that ignition switch and it's 20 degrees - that grid heater is going to do a MASSIVE burn on the batteries for 15+ seconds at 100A...
..... Yeah sorta. It's not actually a 100A alternator *at idle* though - it's like 60A.
And if you have any additional battery banks like a house bank, etc. I'm running four Victron Orion chargers for up to 68A @ 24v going into my house bank.
The 100A dims the lights at idle on a fully kitted...
Usually a drain will only affect either the 12v or the 24v bank and it's often the case that a truck which will not start can be started by swapping the inner and outer battery pairs.
Protecting the 100A alternator.... For me that's easy. Throw it away - can't hurt itself or my batteries from...
It's simply a matter of choices in terms of packaging and pricing. If money was zero object I have no doubt that everyone here would be running four 6T-AGM's and the 260A or 300A FMTV alternators. But that's a $4500 to $8500 alternator and $2800 in batteries.
But make no mistake - you are...
It's pretty simple - it's just a pair of batteries in series providing 24v (for the PPD/LBCD, and the starter leads) with one extra lead that happens to come from the middle of the pair to provide 12v for the PPD/LBCD 12v stud that feeds the 12v subsystem. A two battery system is the simplest...
Kinda makes sense since it's "inducing" a flow by creating a low pressure zone.... Incorrect but I can see a fire department type mixing that up. Little different than Marines half the time - running AT flaming wreckage requires a quality of foolishness that escapes most intelligent beings.
I personally stick with four. One simple reason. Two is one, one is none. With four you can drop to two. With two (one failed, punctured, destroyed, lost in a boating accident, etc)...... you can walk 🤷♂️
