I watched a video on the Detroit Locker and it made me an expert. I'm being silly of course. What I can't figure out is a potential 1/2 revolution of the driveshaft at any speed over 10 mph would make on the synchros and their ability to do their job. 4.56 to 1 axle ratio, tracking, 31 inch...
I'm lost on this question as well but I'm not well educated on lockers used with a manual transmission. How does the locker cause an issue with the synchros in the transmission? The syncrhos are only in use during shifts to try and match input and output speed on the gear being selected before...
I'm coming but trying to figure out how I'm getting there. Plan A will involve driving an M1120A4 with a HMMWV on the flat rack. Plan B will involve the same HMMWV loaded in the bed of my M923. Plan C which is optimal is forget the HMMWV and bring Lee and the boy's up in the Tahoe. Plan D is...
Personal Trucks
M923A1 is "General Non-Sense"

M1152A1 (contact maintenance truck) is "Side Chick"

Watching Auctions lately I'd have to say go through the roof perhaps. The M939's have largely dropped off the auction site so they will go through a slight market correction due to non-availability and settle down in the 4K range that I paid for my truck second-hand. I'm only speculating and...
Get more friends! It's so easy and they are offering a good sign on bonus! One of these trucks may have helped me out at my worst. I get to play with these but can't afford these so I'm sticking with M939 series. Not a stolen picture, this is my crew!
My opinion is based on owning 2 M35A2's and a M923A0 on 14's. I've had the opportunity to operate LMTVs and HEMMT Wreckers thanks to the National Guard. I honestly like the M939 series since most everything on the early models is very simple. NHC-250 power is pretty good once you make some...
86 hmmwv,
Sir, no need to look. The owner of the truck purchased one on an online auction site and sent it to me. The truck is repaired now. I posted the pictures to help with the discussion of "can it be rebuilt". One side offered up a vendor that could possibly repair it and the other...
Pictures attached from what came off including a piece it back together picture. This part has failed, the civilian market replaces it with a solid billet pulley without the rubber "dampener" ring. The idea behind the rubber ring is to dampen the shock created by the diesel combustion event...
If the TM says it, so be it. I'm sure they made the decision based upon functioning brakes on tractor and trailer. The military didn't really worry too much on speed or time to get up to speed back when these trucks were built. Trailer weight is factored in to the total "towed load" as well...
Gimp, you make a great point along with RetiredWarHorses. I'll advise the owner and hopefully proceed with installing a new balancer and crank pulley. I now know the pulley is HMMWV specific, is the balancer HMMWV specific as well? I want to make sure I provide the correct solutions to the...
Everyone loves pictures but I love life experiences tied to them. My truck is probably the coolest playtoy for my little buddy, Briggs. He was sad to see the Deuce leave when "General Non-Sense" showed up but that was short lived. We've been all over the place and he's only made one...
In the pictures you can see the rubber still attached to the hub / flange assembly. The pulley unbonded from the rubber over the course of time. Sarge will keep him company until he's fixed and his owner sends transport for him.
Negative, it was idling. First start in who knows how many years, I just towed this truck home from auction. I would caution at this point that everyone check theirs for piece of mind.
Thanks Ben Roberts. Working Trucks do seem to be a theme here and now mine is busy towing HMMWV's. I need to take more pictures, I honestly don't know who enjoys this old truck more. Since it's a contest I'm going to say my little buddy Briggs! He loves General Non-Sense because he says the...
Part Number is 12460262, NSN 3020-01-442-7485. The civilian equivalent will not work because it only has 6 grooves instead of the 8 on a HMMWV with a serpentine belt accessory drive.
I picked up a M1045A2 for a member on here. Installed batteries, got it running but 30 minutes later the crankshaft pulley decided it was no longer part of the team. It is an 8 rib drive pulley on a serpentine accessory drive. Is this a HMMWV specific part or can I go to NAPA and provide a...
Sir,
Have you tested / charged the batteries since this incident? My deuce would do the same thing whenever the batteries were low on charge. If I had somewhere to go right away I'd keep bumping the starter button and most of the time it'd spin the engine over and off I'd go. If I had the...
