Agreed, I'm really blown away buy the fact that both general motors & the government, didn't see the need for a temperature gauge in a big block, diesel truck, intended to haul or tow heavy loads while in 4WD , off road?:cookoo: Anyway it's ah relatively easy, and cheap fix.
Well there you go, your reading the (radiator), not the (engine). And if your getting 190° at that point it must be running HOT!! Think about it, if the coolant (entering), the engine is already 190°. Then what is it leaving the engine? The only way to get an honest, accurate reading of the...
Unfortunately that's also ah bad, if not worse spot then the port in the head. I had mine plugged in there at first, and quickly realized all it was reading was the cooled water coming (out of the rad). The gauge would never go above 160°
Well that's the tricky part, I've heard you can put it in one of the heads. But in my opinion that wouldn't be the most accurate spot. A true (total temperature) reading of the engine as a whole would be just upstream of the thermostat as most if not all cars are today. Unfortunately the only...
Well it sounds like you now have a ton of air in the lines now that needs to be purged. If it still has the stock fuel filter base you can open the purge valve on the bottom ah few times to help work it out. Also you can Crack open the injectors to get some out as well.
Trust me you'll end up loving the military look of your truck. It'unique, if you paint it shiny it just another old truck in the parking lot. Plus you'll never have to worry about scratchs or door dings. You'll just have to get used to everyone asking you about your truck every time you stop:wink:
One of the first things I did on my truck after buying it and getting it home was to change out the front calipers + pads, and rear wheel cylinders + shoes. For the life of me I could not get the stupid thing to bleed out. So I ordered ah set of Russell speed bleeders. I've had them on all my...
I ordered and installed a new Banks sidewinder turbo, from Banks. As it turns out it's cheaper to order directly from them then from summit? Not sure why there in competition with there own customers, but HUH what do I know:roll: ? So I ordered the kit, they tell me I'll receive it in about...
Yeah the crossover for our trucks needs to go in front of the motor, so if yours does then you should be good. The (head or down pipe) however may be different if the frame of these trucks changed later. But again peanuts if you only paid 300.00 bucks for it.
The only issue I could for see would be the exhuast mite be ah little different. But for that price you could just order new exhuast peices. Does the crossover pipe go in front of the motor or under?
I'm thinking this is ah gauge issue. Where you put your probe really matters. And I find it hard to believe that ah CUCV runs cold:cookoo:. The best place for your gauge probe on ANY engine is at ,or as close as possible to the thermostat (on the engine side) , or upstream of the stat. This...
Had 2 things POP loose with this Banks turbo. The first was about ah month ago when the 1" plug on the back of the plenum (the square box on top of the motor) blew off going down the highway 80mph. Sounded like an explosion and shrapnel as the metal plug banged up against the firewall and down...
