I'm looking at a building project. Something that is more budget friendly. I'm especially interested in adding parameter trending and the ability to monitor things on my MEP003a such as heat temp.
Has anyone built a telemetry system for their generators? Something that would MONITOR the parameters and be visible via a wifi link or cell data link?
Since you are going to use the high voltage setting it drops you down in current so you can use a NEMA 30a 480v connectors and be well within the abilities of the generator.
Give a NEMA L22-30 configuration a look and see if you like it. You can get that one in cord plugs and in a bulkhead...
The gap with everything adjusted properly under no load should be about 5/16".
On the plus side these engines seem to be inexpensive to repair. I hope you find something simple inside when you get it out and apart.
I posted a video of the governor operating in this post - http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?134803-MEP-831a-Troubleshooting&p=1665883&viewfull=1#post1665883
I've not had a chance to make a video on how to set the governor up.
I didn't use a traditional battery lug. I used some copper...
It doesn't look like Burndy makes those connectors anymore. Hubbell still makes pin and sleeve connectors. Grab your rear end though when you buy them. They are pricy. For a couple hundred dollars you can put on regular twist-lock connectors.
The CG favors the engine end a few inches ahead of the center of the skid. I wouldn't worry too much about where it is on the skid since the real goal is to have at least 10% of the total weight of the setup on the tongue. Get the generator on there and slide it around till you have enough on...
Great. Glad to hear that helped. It's always good to cycle all the switches when you do maintenance runs on the machine.
I'm in Efland. Today I was in Apex doing a little work for a friend.
Are the voltages for the other switch positions correct? If so its likely the switch itself. You can try cleaning it by moving it through its positions 10 or 15 times. Switch contacts are usually are self cleaning when actuated.
If you are handy with a VOM - You can double check the diagnosis...
I took the controller from the one I bought today and switched it to the other one. Its running perfectly now. No more acting up. Definitely a bad controller.
On the new one the rotor is still bolted to the engine. The stator is loose and rotates with the rotor if you turn the engine. And of...
The one I picked up today looks pretty good but the alternator is partially disassembled. It is going to take some work to get it ready to start. I have no idea why someone would have done that. I may take the alternator off and see if the engine itself will run. Depending on what I find when I...
I looked around and didn't find the printout. I don't think it would have helped anyway since it was just a row of a spreadsheet. Nothing official looking.
This might sound crazy but I am considering using one of the SS braided hoses for your fridge. They are polypropylene inside and a 25 footer is like $15.
Edit - PolyPro is acceptable for straight diesel at ambient temps and OK up to about B50. Don't use B80 or higher with PolyPro for any length...
