Not too sure how the valve works, but at least it rules it out as a spot I can run a drain line into from the oil breather system I'm putting together.
Thanks guys.
The local National Guard unit had a M923 on NDT's. I know because during Hurricane Sandy they rolled their truck over and took out a few telephone poles nearby. I went over to check it out.
Lube Order says 20 quarts with filter change on the 8.3. That's all I bought(2x2.5 gallon jugs), and am going to be changing it soon, I hope I got enough.
I think green will be easier. No worrying about overspray or anything like that...everything gets it!
Next question...what is this valve? I cannot find it in any of the TM's or on the Cummins Quickserve parts online... It's threaded into the block, just forward of the fuel transfer pump...
Could they mean the ring gear in the differential?
Doesn't exactly make sense with the "can't be started" bit though. Would be more of a cannot be driven.
Got the sides of the bed painted. Next up...the tail gate. It's going to be very labor intensive doing underneath the bed, and the bed itself. Lots of rusty spots that need attention. But she's starting to look good, finally.
Still have to peel the masking tape off of the reflectors and...
So I did the non-official excessive blowby check- by unscrewing the oil cap and seeing if it shoots off of the valve cover. It doesn't.
I've read a lot about Cummins motors in general having oil dripping out of the crank case vents, a lot of people extend them so it doesn't undercoat the...
And assuming your truck has the 8.3L, the turbo really quiets down the exhaust as it is, so it's not like straight piping a NHC-250 or a multifuel engine.
Got the drivers seat back in today. Took the truck for a drive. Got lots of looks and stares as usual
When I got back to the house, I parked it, and let it idle for a few minutes to let the turbo cool down. When looking underneath to ensure my gasket replacement on the transmission pan...

Is anyone planning on going to Jeep Week this year(Aug 21-24th)? I was thinking about taking the M923 down. The Cape May-Lewes ferry is kind of expensive since it's peak season, but might be a fun little trip.
Went to tractor supply yesterday and got hydraulic oil that is Allison rated. It was on sale.
I already had the pan filter and pan gasket.
Started this morning by letting it drain for a few hours while I got some other stuff done(opening our pool up). I think went underneath and checked...
Got the battery box back in, batteries in it and hooked up, hooked the solar charger up, installed the passenger seat(after painting it). Fired the truck up and moved it so I could mow the grass under it. It started right up after sitting for close to a month. I have to touch up a few spots...
I'm going to change mine this week, as the pan gasket is leaking really bad. I'm looking hydraulic oils at Tractor supply. Trying to figure out which one I want to buy.
I want to check to ensure the vent isn't clogged...is there any easy way to get to it? It appears the vent line runs to...
