Your help would be greatly appreciated

Woodchip, I'm in your neighborhood. Like the Sam Cooke song would say, "Don't know much about a green MV," but with one in the yard, "what a wonderful world it would be!" PM me if you want to chug around the block some weekend. (That'll pour some gasoline on the fire... :) ) Peter

    CDL

BigSkyCountry, The weight oft quoted around here is 26,001 lbs as the start of the CDL weight requirement. Most of the bigger trucks have hydraulic brakes ASSISTED by air, not pure air brakes, which also helps keep us out of the CDL territory. Don't forget to add your general location to your...

Umm, Such a short VIN #?

Bottleworks, I recall that someone out there bought a GL lot which included a bayonet or some other item that required an EUC. When the EUC came through for that item, they were free to buy a deuce without the onerous waiting period.

    The soon-to-be 1008 3+3.

Mr. Backman, Mr. Backman? (I'm raising my hand and sitting patiently at my elementary school desk.) :jumpin: (Well, patiently for someone young at heart...) What exactly does 3+3 MEAN? Now can I go to the bathroom?

Where and how did you mount your license plates??

My front bumper had one pre-existing hole on the driver's side and I drilled a mate and mounted the front plate directly to the bumper. For the rear plate I picked up a 2" wide strip of metal with pre-punched holes, mounted that to the bolts on the rear mud flap, and mounted the plate on that...

NJDS, You're great for being one to step up on the graphic. I noticed it, but am not so gifted as to be able to follow through with designing a new one. What a varied set of talents you have! I'm an ex-paralegal who can mangle my way through a couple of languages who happens to now be an...

    the sub drive shaft

I've pulled the sub-axle, and it does seem to have livened the truck up and made it easier to handle. Can't comment on mileage as I keep losing my data to work out the mileage. Dumb question. With the wonderfully articulated axles, how does one RE-INSTALL the aforesaid item? I can only...

    kcgonzo on ebay

I bought a pair of headlights from him this year. They arrived in as described condition, but took a little while. When asked, he indicated he's a contract snowplow driver for Delaware and had been pushing snow for a few days. I was satisfied doing business with him.

new US MIL SPEC tow straps, cheap!

ALERT! MV newbie question: Ok. Price sounds right. How many do folks typically use at one time? One? Two? More depending on application, I'm sure.

    Automatic tire chains

My county seems to have given up on using onspots and gone to straight 4WD for all our ambulances. The fire trucks still just use regular chains. The onspots DO hang pretty low, and it looks like they might not work too well with NDTs. I think if you're moving less than 5MPH the chains don't...
