updated pics of my hemtt restoration

Mind if I jump in here... Kenny, the best one I've run across it the Bendix X-Vision system as used on the Cadillacs and other GM cars. Make sure you get one new in the box or you stand a chance of buying a cobbled together unit with someone else's problems. Found mine on eay; they aren't...

    Plastigage for rod bearing checkup

Plastigage is good for checking clearances but a look at the shell surfaces and crank throw surfaces is wise too, in order to spot scoring which can be the reason for low oil pressure and increased bearing wear; or copper showing through, but only in certain areas. The visual is necessary 'cause...

    Proper way to wire Solargizer?

Not sure what the amp output is but they're mostly used to de-sulfate batteries. I don't know if it will hurt them to be mounted but not connected. In direct sunlight, without a battery on the output terminals, they'll put out a lot more than their 24 volt rating. Bjorn, wanna chime in here?

Russian (and european) Vehicles on Finnish Army

Welcome to the site. Great pictures, thanks for sharing them. It's also interesting to see different camo patterns than those we're used to.

    EUC

Just making sure you're not going to sell it to a foreign entity who'll turn around and use it against us. And getting your signature on the form gives them the path to come after you, if you do.

    air cleaner question

"Hack job" is a little harsh. Just remember; "If it's stupid but it works, it isn't stupid".

Is this the right crimping tool

Here's the tool I made for handling the female terminal springs. Not exactly high-tech but it sure makes life easier when you're doing wiring jobs.

Is this the right crimping tool

Kenny, the springs have to come off to fit through the tool. I turned down a bolt for a tool to remove and replace them. The tip is sized to slide into the female terminal with a step that's the same size as the outside of the end that I slide the spring off onto. After crimping, I just re...

    SAFETY WIRE GAUGE

Kinda down-and-dirty but we just use which ever size will fit through the safety wire holes in the screw or bolt head, or threaded shank. After all, they were drilled to accept the specified safety wire size at time of manufacture.

    5 ton

Sounds more like the batteries on the jumped truck aren't doing their job or the battery isolation switch is off. If it starts with a jump the pump's working.

    It is a shame.

The city council backed down only after an overwhelming flood of messages and emails; almost all of which supported the Marines in particular, and the armed forces in general. The threat of federal withdrawal of funding also was a big stick. As a Californian, I have to say that the city council...

    CARC v. Road Salt

CARC, applied right, acts like a continuous plastic coating. The same thing that keeps chemical agents out will work on road salt.

    Vehicle Code legal...?

Behave, keep it pretty close to looking like military issue, don't call attention to yourself and you shouldn't have any problems. i.e. Common sense says don't put the M2HB in the ring mount for a trip to WalMart; save it for parades and MV events.

    Where are the TMs?

Across the top of the home page are several boxes. Hit 'Resources' with your cursor and you should get a drop down menu.

    tachograph

I put a Argo Tachograph in my project truck and recommend them. Tachographs are good for checking driving habits over a trip-- especially if you have assistant drivers. You can see how speeds were controlled and tell-tale jack rabbit starts and heavy braking are easily spotted by spikes in the...

Perfectly ok 1989 M35A2C gets broken up

Just looked at the ad and it's been ended early; "...item is no longer available for sale". Maybe somebody woke him up.

    Need an opinion...

Might give the appearance of being mismatched to the truck. If you're thinking of heat reflectivity, how about just the top panel tan with the uprights still green? Don't know if the stuff is still available but at one time a lot of the comm shelters and shop vans were painted camo but carried a...
