You know what, I hauled a lubrication and air service trailer all the way from Columbia South Carolina to West Melbourne Florida with am M1008A1 CUCV. I would NOT recommend doing something like this for anyone without having some way to slow or stop the trailer in the event of an emergency. I...
Thanks to Milkman I have ordered another meter for my STE/ICE kit - total cost $40.00 shipped! I hope this one works but if not I can always take one apart to see what is inside! That's how I learned how to work on MVs!
Please let me know if you find the website that offers the digital readout unit. It's possible I may have gotten a bummer part but have seen other people who had the same problems with theirs. The box makes a great military seat by the way ad is also useful as a stepping stool too.
Both Lavarok and I tried everything to get my unit to work. I really wanted to get the tachometer portion working for my M1008 but all I ever got back were error readings when trying to indicate the vehicle to test. It's interesting to know that one unit can update another and it is a shame...
Best of luck using your STE/ICE on a CUCV! My STE/ICE kit was practically new and came with the TM. I could not get it to work when I plugged in the correct code for my M1008A1 and Lavarok's M1008. I think there's some updated software that needs to be loaded into mine. Anybody know where...
I appreciate all of the information about properly sanitizing the interior of the tank. Once I finish all of the little stuff for the M149A2 I will want to prep it for our potable water supply here at the house. I am pulling parts off of the brown M149 to use on the green M149A2 - like the...
Hi slash79 - are you still over in Okinawa? I spent two years in Japan back in 1970 & 70 but was stationed at Johnson Air Base, Irumigawa Japan back then. The base was closed and returned to the Japanese back in 1974.
Thanks for the tip about taking the tank for a "ride" after filling it...
Wayne!!!
Thanks for the info on sanitizing the tank. I had a feeling there might be a chemical reaction of some sort with chlorine bleach and stainless steel. I am sure there is a proper way to bring the tank back to sanitary specs using some chemical to accomplish the job. I spoke with one of...
RUPPSTER!!!!
That wrecker was never part of my collection and may still be available at a reasonable price. It's down in Punta Gorda - a long drive from where I live on the east coast near Patrick AFB. I would hove loved adding that wrecker to my motor pool but I think my neighbor has seen...
How right you are maddawg308! I think it will be fun wipping this into shape - should take me the rest of my life the way it looks though. I did not photograph the leaf springs which are also in pretty rough shape too. If I only use this for around the yard very little will have to be done...
More photos. Tomorrow I will pressure wash this thing to see what is underneath of the garbage on the tank. I'll definitely be looking for some replacement parts for this! Not too long ago I saw someone on Ebay selling faucets and the hand brake arms for military trailers and I did not bid...
I brought the other half of the lot home today - this one is rough!!!! At least the landing gear is the kind that one person can work with but I'll have to get the lift kit installed on my CUCV before benefitting from the crank-up mechanism. The forest ranger that helped me with the retrieval...
That is really neat! Ironically I am about 45 minutes from Disneyworld. There are so many uses for these things! Years ago someone in Orlando had a really old aluminum water buffalo that had bullet holes in it and shredded tires on weird looking rims that looked like the ones used on the H1 -...
Here's the bad stuff that I have to fix on this trailer. Not sure what the thickness of the sheet metal is but I think it will be easy to find out. Unbelieveable rust and probably why they decided to part with it. In one photo there's some kind of part that is made of aluminum that I would...
Wait until I get the other trailer home and pressure wash it! The representative that assisted me said that it also has a stainless tank but it is a newer model and has the desert tan coloring. I asked the people at the Forrestry Service to forward additional photos of the units and I'll see...
Just returned from Altoona Florida after retrieving one of the two water buffalos that I won in that GSA auction - turns out that both have stainless steel tanks. I took the worst of the two home today and will go back on Monday for the other one. The trip was uneventful and I cruised at 60 mph...
That's okay Setoyota, I just put more peas in the pot. I have wanted one of these ever since I filled my first canteen from a water buffalo when I was deployed to the "back yard" at Homestead AFB back in the early 80's. The water we have in our area is pure #@&T! I have a well and we have...
I just won two water buffalos over in Altoona Florida from a GSA auction this evening. No idea what type they are but need them for fire control over where I live. We have no fire hydrants anywhere near our house so I am planning to hook a strong gas driven pump to the water buffalo to use in...
