The information I had about the "dirt" was told to mwe by a Vet... I'm by no means saying it was Gospel. I was told it was TRIED out and then they just started using ammo as the Metal of the Bed...

Some of the early ones in Vietnam that only had 1/4" steel wall setups...... some had twin walls and they added sandbags and sometimes ammocans of sand to add to the stopping ability of the armor. Now this is based on recolection from soem Vets and from Pics...

I'm not saying ALL of them had it... Some did as it added Mine protection........if a mine went off..... and hit the ammo... it's even worse.............

Yep, Ammo cans of Dirt............. they found that Sandbags.... Absorbed water... adding huge amounts of weight to the vehicle......
Vol I is out of Print. Mr. Lyles Financed the first book on his own...... used the procedes from Vol I to print Vol II..... I'm not sure how Vol III is...

Alot of the early trucks were on Deuces...... the'd keep adding Armor, Sandbags & Ammo then the Chassis were failing. I have both Vols 1 & 2 of the Above mentioned Boook.

Wasn't allowed to TIG when I went......... I got in a Fight with a Tablesaw............ I was in a Thermoformed Plastic Cast........... It Didnt; stop me from doing the machining on our final project....LOL...
I 3rd it........... I took Cad but we did Welding and Machining as well...... I wound up with a "Precision Metals" diploma for 2 yras of it in HS..................
if doing open air blasting.... Avoid Sand....... you can get siliosis
