    Battery post melt down

I saw a mechanic do this once on my track in Germany. Freaked me out when he put that torch to the top. I never saw that before and thought for sure it was going to explode. Anyway, he used a what looked like a large nut with an internal diameter about the same as the post on the good...

mil swop meet in Crawfordsville, IN

I'll be there. Like Len said, try to get up there and check it out. Crawfordsville isn't too far from Indy. If you haven't been up to the Ropkey Museum before, it is well worth the trip anyway. I also don't recall specifically what was there last year but I know there were some deuce parts...

    Steering knuckle greese

There is an inner oil seal that is supposed to prevent gear lube from getting out to the knuckles. May be that yours is deteriorated enough to flush out the grease. On the good side, it seems that you only need to fix one side and not both. Though it is usually good practice to do both sides...

    Indiana MVPA Meeting_9 July

Len, See you in September then. I've heard the Crown Point show is a good show but I've never been. The Indy1500 is about as far as I will drive for a show.

    passenger seat

Yes, those were for the laced on covers, held on with ropes. It is explained better on page 359 of TM 9-8031-2. I don't know if there were originally any other type but I have seen some re-covered seats with staples or tacks holding them on.

    M37 Manuals

If you don't get them from John at Midwest, you can usually find them on ebay or some of the other parts vendors. If you do a Google search you will find more. As for free, there is a site in Canada (Military Trucks.ca) that has the '55 & '73 operator's TMs and some maintenance manuals for...

    M37 Fuel Filler Neck

I believe the "Pressure Cap" is the correct original cap on these trucks. Later replacements had the open-close option. The TMs show a cap with the 5 ribs on top that is the same as our "Pressure Cap" type. As DAP pointed out, the original configuration would have the tank vented to the carb.

    2011 Findlay Show...After Action Report!

I had a good run at Findlay too. Found a few M37 parts for a lot less than I expected to pay in near NOS condition. About the only thing I didn't find was a loose latch hinge pin for my pintle. There were a lot a 1/4 tons there this year, more than I remember in previous years. Mostly...

    Indiana MVPA Meeting_14 May

Greetings all, Just a quick note as our regular meeting date for this weekend has been pushed back to 9 July. We will still have a showing at the Indy Air Show but there won't be a "formal" meeting due to lack of officers (some working, some out of town). However, the club Prez will be there...

Yes, bring it all! I will be there Friday afternoon-Saturday morning. I don't have a table but I have a cargo cover for a 1/2 ton WC (Marked Dura-Pac 08505 Y) I can bring if anyone is interested. My buddy is bringing some OD canvas CUCV/blazer front seat covers. Looking for a set of...

    Door Mechanisms

Are you saying they are a little rough and sloppy? My window, no matter how meticulous I adjust it, still is a little rough in a couple spots, mostly at the top and the very bottom. I've had them apart, lubed them, adjusted them, replaced the weather seals that the glass runs up with very...

    Patching a Vinyl Canvas Cover

The NSN for the old black adhesive in the cans has been replaced by adhesive in tubes. It is 3M Scotch-Weld Nitrile High Performance Rubber and Gasket Adhesive #847. I was able to find it at a local Fastenal store. I think it is in their catalog so any store may be able to order it. I used...

    Patching a Vinyl Canvas Cover

There is a product called HH-66. Should be available at local tent shops. A friend repaired his 2 1/2 ton vinyl top a few years back with this stuff and it is still holding tight. The patches were needed where the cover lay over the bows: one at the rear right corner and a couple over the...

    1954 M37 paint and markings

Welcome. A lot of folks go with the Gillespie (GCI) brand handled by Rapco. A few go with the Aervoe but most use GCI. Everyone seems to have their favorite primer system too. Frequently, a lot go with local sources for primer. Lots of discussion threads on those points. Pretty much same...
