    Kenworth 8x8 XM1074 PLS

Re: RE: Kenworth 8x8 XM1074 PLS Thanks for the tip. I have heard others mention problems with the injectors too. Good thing is the truck only has 14,000 miles on it and I'll never get it to 100,000 in my lifetime.

    Kenworth 8x8 XM1074 PLS

I am putting together a Palletized Loading System using prototypes built by Kenworth and would like any input or history you can give me on the truck or trailer. As a stroke of luck, ARMYMAN30yearsplus had been saving one of the original manuals for these from original testing in the late...

fishing for thoughts on a 5 ton 8x8 (fake hemtt)

It sounds like a lot of work, but the one good thing you have going for you is the ability to power a second front axle with only a driveshaft. Plenty of HEMTT surplus cabs are available so I would look for one of those.

Cool trailer and M35 parts truck recovery

Looking good. Reminds of the song "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy"

    M54 Bobed ready to roll

Your truck looks great! [thumbzup] I am surprised that this is common knowledge and our members still place orders with this guy. It must be the "it won't happen to me" syndrome.

    M1008 exhaust and tires?

Go for a Banks Sidewinder kit to get more power and a new exhaust. Get some HMMWV wheels and tires, either 36" bias or 37" radials. A little fender trimming or a mild lift will do.

    towing M35 with M35

RE: M35 The towing procedures are covered in the manual. There is different guidance depending on whether your has an air-shift front end or sprag. Westfolk has many miles towing and his advice is good. Keep the towbar as short as possible. Be sure to have the adapters mounted "upside"...

Where to get tire inserts 16 R 20

IIRC the runflats are 38" ish diameter and the beadlocks are 22" ish. Big difference in capability, weight and installation difficulty. Here is a picture of each.

Where to get tire inserts 16 R 20

Do you want runflats or just beadlocks?

    Help mountin XZL tires

The insert functions as a double beadlock. Very handy to have when operating at low psi offroad or in case of a flat in a remote area. Not required for install though.

What is this? Oshkosh HEMTT? Trailer?

Buy it for the crane or imitate Spicergear and use it like a "big dumb trailer" rofl

I'm new here and my recent road trip

:ditto: That first pic would make a great avatar too! Nice set of trucks you have.

Rear Hub flip M123/M125 10 ton truck

The Oshkosh PLS brochure says the trucks are compatible with 24R21 widebase tires. I think Hotrod on ebay had some of those in the XZL pattern a while back.

    Towing Safety (Please Read)

I also use magnetic flashers on the towed vehicle and a Vehicle in Tow sign (just in case they can't see the big hunk of green iron in front of them!)

    Towing Safety (Please Read)

Good suggestion on the criss cross. The manual indicates attaching chains to the spring perches, but I had 1 chain and just looped it around the bumper. Both ends of it are attached to the towing vehicle at the shackles to keep it from coming off.
