Re: RE: Kenworth 8x8 XM1074 PLS
Thanks for the tip. I have heard others mention problems with the injectors too. Good thing is the truck only has 14,000 miles on it and I'll never get it to 100,000 in my lifetime.
I am putting together a Palletized Loading System using prototypes built by Kenworth and would like any input or history you can give me on the truck or trailer. As a stroke of luck, ARMYMAN30yearsplus had been saving one of the original manuals for these from original testing in the late...
It sounds like a lot of work, but the one good thing you have going for you is the ability to power a second front axle with only a driveshaft. Plenty of HEMTT surplus cabs are available so I would look for one of those.
Your truck looks great! [thumbzup]
I am surprised that this is common knowledge and our members still place orders with this guy. It must be the "it won't happen to me" syndrome.
Go for a Banks Sidewinder kit to get more power and a new exhaust. Get some HMMWV wheels and tires, either 36" bias or 37" radials. A little fender trimming or a mild lift will do.
RE: M35
The towing procedures are covered in the manual. There is different guidance depending on whether your has an air-shift front end or sprag.
Westfolk has many miles towing and his advice is good. Keep the towbar as short as possible. Be sure to have the adapters mounted "upside"...
IIRC the runflats are 38" ish diameter and the beadlocks are 22" ish. Big difference in capability, weight and installation difficulty. Here is a picture of each.
The insert functions as a double beadlock. Very handy to have when operating at low psi offroad or in case of a flat in a remote area. Not required for install though.
The Oshkosh PLS brochure says the trucks are compatible with 24R21 widebase tires. I think Hotrod on ebay had some of those in the XZL pattern a while back.
Good suggestion on the criss cross. The manual indicates attaching chains to the spring perches, but I had 1 chain and just looped it around the bumper. Both ends of it are attached to the towing vehicle at the shackles to keep it from coming off.
