The math calculates line pull to be about 12,000 lb. There is some safety factor in that number so actual pull is probably less.
All the pulling is being done by a 10,500 HMMWV hyd winch mounted at the front of the bed. This line is running through one block to change direction, to the...
As Patracy pointed out, don't plan on buying a HMMWV and it going up in value. Nobody knows where the long term market is heading and there are a whole lot of factors that can be done by the stroke of a pen that can greatly affect the HMMWV market overnight.
I'm in the "never borrow for toys"...
I don't know what the record is but I may be in the running for the biggest load moved with a M35a2.
we needed to move a 240,000 lb autoclave out of a building, on the second floor. I needed a winch truck so I put the deuce to earning it's keep.
when these pics were taken, we had moved it...
I agree with this. I tend to think people worry way too much about wet stacking.
I know we've ran farm tractors for days on end pulling small loads without damage. Most OTR tractor trailers run all night just keeping the A/C or heat going, again, without damage.
As for weight placement, a good rule of thumb is 60% to the front and 40% to the back. You can certainly get by with a little more or less than that but don't get anywhere close to 50/50 or the trailer will fishtail. When I was picking up a lot of M105s, I'd regularly pull two at a time, one...
It wouldn't be too hard to find a available replacement. I've had to do this with old tractors several times. There are a lot of older Garret and Air Research turbos that are being remanufactured. I'm sure you could find one that would work, I just haven't took the time to find out and I haven't...
I've done several M25a2 hyd setups. My current truck drives off a transfer case PTO, which I think is the simplest, if you can source the PTO. I've even done a couple that drive off a standard winch PTO, with the pump mounted beside the engine, in the frame well. The only down side to that is...
I started filming one the last time I loaded it. Problem was I had unloaded it on a slight side hill. When I went to winch it on, the shelter kept trying to slide to the downhill side on the tail roller. I'd have to winch a little, get back there with a long bar and straighten in up on the...
I'll get some pics of my escape hatch. Best I remember, mine has some big louvers like in Dan's pic and some smaller louvers behind that, kind of like what's still in the top of your hatch.
I've been leaving my floor plug out but I guess I should at least install it loosely to keep mice and such out. Mine isn't all that tight, only thing that seals the exhaust fans is a aluminum weather flap.
I saw a guy use just a regular is where I got the idea for mine but I thought "why do you want to have to dump it out"? That's when I thought to cut the bottom out of mine. Take it with you behind a tree, take care of business, pick it up, and leave the poop on the ground.
Funny thing is, when...
I'd be willing to bet the SF-97 was never applied for or never converted to civilian title. If that's the case, the military, or the auction house is the only ones that would have info on them.
You could do like the military did on a lot of them and just take a A2 hood, cobble it up, and put it on there.
It looks like somebody forgot to fasten the two safety latches. It happens and I've done it myself, I was just lucky enough to catch it before it flung open going down the road.
I haven't noticed mine sweating on the inside like that. I agree a small fan would help, mine is sitting right beside the shop so I could power it up and just use the stock exhaust fan.
Looking at the pics, I can't help but notice how many different ways they are set up. Seems almost no two...
You're camper is much nicer than my S-280 camper. My toilet is a 5 gal bucket with the bottom cut out, I did add some foam pipe insulation around the rim for comfort.
