I have been looking at different belt arrangments as well. I am also looking at swapping over to a surpintine set up.

I may be wrong, but I think you are going to have charging issues. I think you have to have more belt wrapped around the pulling of the generator.

I do prefer to work with what ever is lying around. Not only is it cheaper, but more fun to problem solve.
