    Oshkosh wins JLTV Contract.

And come on, it's the best looking one out of all of them [thumbzup]

    Oshkosh wins JLTV Contract.

Think up armored HMMWV replacement with more package flexibility and "system intelligence" essentially, and a drive-train/suspension that was conceived to handle the armor packages from the start, nothing more. The early MRAPs were a rush to production, to fill an "urgent need" in the Middle...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Can I pull an M1000 with a M1009 and a M197A1 trailer dolly? I don't have on-board air, and I only have 550 paracord since my safety chains are rusted - I just need to move it a few thousand miles... and I have a manufactured house on the trailer, will the extra wind resistance affect my hill...

    tim292stro's M1009 (formerly math1960's)

M1009 has the Roscomon 12V conversion I'll be undoing (bringing back 24V portion), spin on filter and doghead mods I'm leaving, I'll be putting the antennas that I bought from 86humv which will require installing the other antenna bracket and the brush guards, and wiring an incognito CarPuter...

XM1027 - CUCV Crew Cab Build

So after getting jerked around by a seller here in California for a month and missing two other local trucks, I've put my money where my mouth is and bought Math1960's M1009. Now working on getting it shipped out here. I'm starting a new thread on this truck.

    tim292stro's M1009 (formerly math1960's)

Just bought an '86 M1009 from Math1960, will keep this thread up so he can keep tabs on it. [thumbzup] Pictures from the ad:

S-250 Shelter Build - Camper conversion and simplified comms-shack

You know I'm a nut for security, VOX on a PBX system is not security, it's convenience (anyone who can speak would be able to transmit). Letting any caller (licensed or not) into a radio bridge is kind of like putting your gun on a conference table and letting anyone pick it up as use it as...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I like that nearly NVIS green lighting in the instruments. [thumbzup] LEDs?

S-250 Shelter Build - Camper conversion and simplified comms-shack

Yes, and I did that for a few reasons. Firstly, I want people who would be using a traditional radio over VoIP to realize they need to take turns and not just start talking (it is half duplex after all). With the RoIP Conference Bridge the radio's RX audio traffic gets the highest priority...

S-250 Shelter Build - Camper conversion and simplified comms-shack

BareSIP would be nearly equivalent to what I'm doing with LinPhone, the "lightly modified" part is that once the Raspberry Pi is hooked up to network and power, it tries to dial in as "master/host" for the conference bridge. I went this way because the RoIP was limited to VOX operation, and it...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Have you done the Doghead mod? This was a common problem, starter relay welding closed due to too low a current rating.

    Value of 5 ton

The market value is the market value, if someone needs it gone then it goes cheaper and cheaper until it sells, and it's a buyer's market now. You're not talking about price fixing are you?

S-250 Shelter Build - Camper conversion and simplified comms-shack

For HAM RX/TX, there are licensing requirements I have to abide by, so I'll be using the FlexRadio SDR line for simplicity - this is a half-depth 2U transceiver that can be remoted over TCP/IP networks (simple plug in for Asterisk). For the other bands, and for general listening and snooping...

    Starter system fire

Also it's good to remember that batteries store energy in a chemical process. If you do a huge power draw like spinning a 3kW-5kW starter motor after running 3.2kW of Glow Plugs their ballast resistor, it takes a while for the battery's chemical process to recover. Think of it like filling a...

UK Newbie factory paint finish question

Sounds like the doors and dash came from a M1008. Yes, rust in cab corners (top of pillars), rocker panels (the body skin right below the doors) are all notorious for rust if the truck sees wet weather or snow. You don't get any of that over there in the UK do you   The repair...

XM1027 - CUCV Crew Cab Build

That's not being tough for her - when she starts growling and goes for the bat, then that's when she's being tough. I was always a sucker for a Redhead. [thumbzup]

S-250 Shelter Build - Camper conversion and simplified comms-shack

Been talking to Timberwolf22 via PM and in his S-250 thread, though some of the info I was going to put in a reply PM would be interesting to more people - so... I'm trying to make the comms stuff a secondary function of the shelter - thinking the phrase "Jack of all trades and master of none"...

UK Newbie factory paint finish question

Indeed, the curiosity has me going here, this would be the first "built from parts" truck I've been directly aware of outside an anecdote. Good opportunity to see something we don't every day.

XM1027 - CUCV Crew Cab Build

Moved to new post to put up the picture: I think I already have enough Panasonic computer gear to cover all of my projects and then some: What you're looking at is 14x CF-30's, two spare CF-30 LCD heads, 8x CF-19's, and a 12" and 10" vehicle dock LCD monitors, and one vehicle dock keyboard...

UK Newbie factory paint finish question

Yeah, I agree with you, that VIN does not match the truck you have - that's a pickup VIN. The C instead of an 8 classifies this truck as a, well.. truck, not an SUV (MPV) The 3 instead of the 1 translates to 1-ton instead of 1/2 ton. But most importantly, the 4 instead of the 8 for the body...
