updated pics, 5 ton 4 door

Dave, I don't know if your still reading this thread but in order to get to see your facebook page I must be a facebook member, which I am not. Any chance you could post a few of the finished pics here? I'm really interested to see how you finished it out. Did you put the tire behind the cab...

Axle gearing Somebody mentioned changing the axle gearing. I thought there was only 1 ratio available, the standard 6:something. What else is available, where can I get more info on it and any idea how much? I'll also probably be wanting lockers. Any idea what those go for/where to get...

    Daily Driver Project

Don't watch much TV. Mostly movies. I do remember seeing Extreme 4x4 once on a weekend but they had Moab rock crawlers, no MV stuff. I got the idea by reading here and seeing the build pics. That and I have always wanted a MV and tanks get really bad MPG on the highway.

Now that there is some good information! In regards to using a 5 ton; What is the gearing? Will it be harder to convert 5t axles to disc brake than 2.5t? What vehicles would have used the cummins 400? How would the 400 compare to the 5.9? Any down side to using a 5t for this project...

    Daily Driver Project

As noted, I'm pretty used to all that already, fire trucks hauling 1,500 gallons of water, rescue tools, ladders and enough wood cribbing to build a small house don;t exactly stop/turn on a dime...lol.. Ambulances loaded 2,000# over max listed weight are no better. As for the little cars...

    Daily Driver Project

In short answer: YES. A longer answer is that I have never been a "Conformist" I usually end up being "Different" than the "Normal people". I like the idea of driving a part of American history. I like the idea that just maybe my truck helped save some soldier from a long walk after a battle or...

    Daily Driver Project

With a "stock" Duce I would expect that. but shortened and with power steering would it really be all that much worse than the a F350 with the longest wheelbase Ford makes in a F350? (Crew cab, 8' bed = 172" WB) (That 172 # is from memory, I'm pretty sure it is correct, not 100%) Comments...

    Daily Driver Project

LOL.. That is what I was initially thinking! Well I can't do all of the mods myself, some will have to be farmed out but even still, doing it all or doing what you can and overseeing the rest is still pretty rewarding, at least it has been on all the civilian vehicles I have modded. This will...

It would seem that is the case but not really. Until now every response was that it would be bad for xyz reason. I have been reading quite a bit about using a Duce as a DD, (That is where I got most of my mod ideas from, seeing what people said was a problem and trying to address each the best I...

    Balancing the 53" XZL tires?

On one of the 4x4 boards I read they had a discussion about balancing tires, (Of all sizes). There is a process where they remove the tire/wheel assembly and then move a machine into place under the vehicle and spin the hub to (I believe) 110 or 120MPH and then balance that assembly. Once...

    What is this?

Just noticed I butchered the spelling... HEMTT. To bad they are not more available and the cost. Using one of the with a 40' shipping container converted to RV use would be way cool. Of course I'm sure you would need a second one, the tanker variant if you planned to go more than a hundred miles...

    What is this?

I used the link in one of the above posts and it took me right to the Oshkosh site. They have both of these vehicles listed, (Along with a bunch of other cool looking vehicles). They even have some videos of the trucks doing their stuff. That TAK-4 suspension system (Used on the MTVR) has its...

    What is this?

I have to plead guilty to steeling that pic from somebody's avatar. Saw it, liked it, "Borrowed it".... Thanks for the ID's! (I thought that one was a HEMMIT, was not sure.) So, are either of these things available? Are my assumptions correct?

Floatable would be nice.... I don't have a pilot license so flyable would not do me much good. OK, I think I am getting the idea now. Wonderful thing about sites like this, you guys just saved me a crapload of money! I still want a 5 ton to build into a killer RV though. In that I'll be...

    What is this?

2 items. #1: At a drag race about 2 months ago the USMC sent over a couple trucks for display. 1 was a big recovery/wrecker of some sort. The other: Looked like a giant Duce with 52" wheels (1 per axle per side) and 6 wheel drive through independent suspension. Had CTIS. What is the name...

NOTE: Due to being a really cool looking project that simply will not work in the real world (As demonstrated by the answers already given) This project is canceled. You can post a reply if you like but we are done here.... Thanks to those that already responded..... OK it seems that maybe I was...

    Road trip to Alaska

As I’m sure you read, your Mossberg is in the Non-restricted category, you just have to declare it, get a $25 good for 60 days permit and take a “Reasonably direct” route through the country. Also, depending on the barrel length handguns are either “Restricted” or “Prohibited” apparently mostly...

Another way to Bob a Deuce!

Sir you are incorrect. You do very much deserve them, (Vet plates). You voluntary signed up to wear the uniform. You were there and ready. It is not your fault that they never sent you to get shot at. Combat or not, you deserve the kudos. Thank you for your dedication and service to our...

    M925 vs M35A3 speeds?

Keeping in mind I am a MV idiot (Just started really getting interested in owning one of these things) and not wanting to hi-jack this thread... I was going to send you an IM or email but (Maybe I'm just tired since I never went to bed last night...) I cold not find the button to do that...

little yellow light on roof of m1009

In Florida you see large groups of motorcycles (10-50) do this with regularity. No legal standing at all. Never been questioned by a LEO (Yet?) Must be a LOT easier to stop traffic with a 2 1/2 6x6 army truck than a motorcycle... Fancy blinking light or not...;-)
