Good info even if I wasn't going to put LEDs in my truck. When I built the lightbar I used amber LEDs behind the amber lens because they only had amber LEDs. So it worked out!
Wait until you get it off road. The first time my BFGs threw a rock up into the rear wheel well it sounded like a gunshot. Some sort of liner in the wheel well might help too.
Have someone weld the bolt down so it doesn't move. Clean the cover out really well, then write what you know of the story of the bolt on the inside of the cover with a Marsh white marker. Someday another owner may find it and it'll be a cool surprise.
We used to use those markers to write...
Well, I ended up at wal-mart and got the Purolator anyway, but that's good info for my cheat-sheet.
Five hours, three oil filters, two air filters, and 21 quarts of various oils; the PM at my motor pool is complete.
I did the M1009 last, and wouldn't you know it- the oil filter was dented when...
I was planning to do oil changes to the M1009 and two jeeps today, and remembering the frustration of trying to find the proper filter using the list in the stickies, I did some research and compiled this list. If anyone sees a problem with it just let me know. The sticky list has filters I am...
I don't know whats supposed to be used, but standard bullet connectors will plug in either (or both) side. That's what I will use. If I don't like the bullets, I'll pop the connectors out of the grommets and just run some 10 gauge wire through the hole.
The solenoid relay I'm using is...
Great job! I also bought some bulbs and cans from Popacom, only mine came without the trim rings needed to hold the bulbs in- but he's working on finding me some. I have the wiring mostly finished and only need to mount the cans. I'm using a solenoid relay mounted in the engine bay on the...
I was walking by a chevy van in the junkyard yesterday and saw one hanging out the hood by the rubber hose. Checked the number when I got home and sure enough it was the same.
I walked the junkyard today looking for a few parts, but mid 80s trucks are getting hard to find. As we were leaving I spotted a coolant overflow bottle hanging out of an old Chevy van that looked a lot like the one in my 1009, so I wrote the number down to check it when I got home. Sure...
I found some decent aluminum wheels on craigslist and painted them. They've been on eight months now and the paint is holding up great. You can also get them powder-coated if you want to spend the money. I also found some BGF AT TAs on craigslist as well, almost new.
Mine start slow and slowly speed up.
Sometimes they will stop wherever they happen to be when I turn them off, other times they'll park themselves like they're supposed to. May or may not be related.
Can someone post a picture or really good description of where the capacitors are located...
The second speaker is installed on the grill, so both 100 watt feeds are working now. I got the horn ring connected to the siren box, so the air horn blows when you mash down on it. The wires are mostly loomed up but I need to re-do some of it.
Next up is the landing lights for the grill...
I got this one from a junkyard, repainted it, and screwed it down between the seats.
I'm planning on another one soon. A shallow ammo can with a jotto or similar police console attached to the top. That way I can install the siren control box and the light control box, and eventually a 2...
