    cucv stereos

It has the 2 knobs. Mounts flush. Would have to cut the plastic, but not the dash.

    cucv stereos

One of our Kenworth tractors at work (T800 model) has a 2-knob style stereo in the overhead liner with a built-in CD player. I have tried, but have been unable to find where it came from. I am seriously considering doing a swap. I really don't want to cut my 1009 dash, no matter how...

    Battery woes

Get a group 31 battery (physical size) with as many cranking amps as you can. Try to get one with a flat top (recessed caps) to make the hold-down work properly.

Recovery 2.19.09 of our first m1009 at Jefferson City

What a great score. I really like that drop-shadow camo. Gotta look into doing that to mine.

How many men does it take to load a 1/2 ton of tires?

That was priceless. After all, TIMING is everything. I just wish we had taken pics of some of the stuff we did. As far as winching stuff from a tree, before Recovry4x4 got his crane, he used a chain hoist and TWO trees. On heavy lifts, the tops of the trees would cross! As previously stated...

locking out the rear axle M1009

Are you referring to the type of transfer cases which can be used to "unlock" (free up) the rear driveshaft so that you can do a slide maneuver with the front end? This method is very popular with the rock crawler crowd.

    Hood lock?

The way I am thinking of does not require a chain. That's the appeal to me. No rattling chain. Even the padlock will have a rubber coating. The ONLY rattlin' I will tolerate is the detroit.

    M887 goes away, comes back!

Quick- somebody call Starsky & Hutch. We have located their long lost twin to their Torino!

    Hood lock?

I have searched this, and not found anything. The striker on my M1009 hood has a hole in it on the end. It seems like this would be a perfect place for a padlock (with a rubber coated housing). I can reach my hand thru the space in the grille where the blackout drive light is located and have...

    What Batteries?

I went directly to the Truck Pro store. It's only 5 minutes from my house. I work for an excavating company, we use alot of TPro stuff. The salesman stops by our garage regularly. I talked him into a great price ($83 each) and paid cash, traded in 2 old batts. I wanted the Optimas, but they were...

    M887 goes away, comes back!

Nice re-recovery! I sure wishI could have back a certain big red truck that I let go a few years back. I never thought I would ever be doing this stuff again. But I love it and realize how much I missed it.

    First CUCV m1008

Yea man, the front dif is worth what you paid for the entire truck. I have been eyeing 1008 driveline parts for my 1009.

    What Batteries?

I just bought 2 batteries for my 1009 from Truck Pro. Group 31 size, 1190 cranking amps, 1000 cold crank. They fit perfectly. If you want to use the existing battery hold-down, try to get batteries with recessed caps- the flat top kind. They will be compatible, as the caps won't be in the way...

    M1009 Rubber Floor Mat

I would also like to find a replacement rubber mat. I have painted my entire floor with POR 15 and a topcoat of green paint. I think the bed liner is wayyyy to rough. I seriously doubt that my floors will ever rust, but will likely section the mat for easier removal and cleaning. I had the top...

12 step program for CUCV needed

That is some of the coolest camo I have ever seen. Look at the drop shadows where the different colors meet. Gives it a 3-D appearance. Most excellent.

    Spare tire on front

Here is another option. If your tires are fairly new and in good shape, just carry a compact 12v compressor (or an air tank or CO2) along with a tire plug kit. Most flats are just that. Flats. This will get you going on anything short of a blow-out. If you feel a tire going down, stop and check...

    First M1009

That M1009 has a pattern very similar to mine. I bought 2 at once from Drexel Gardens in Indy. I have since sold the other one to Westy. Nice grab and congrats!

    It Started!

2cents Use starting fluid ONLY as a last resort. Fully functioning glow plugs and strong batteries are the way to go, especially if you're in it for the long run.

how cold has it been and started?

Oh, come on Eric. What IS the answer? Enquiring minds want to know! ( I am bracing myself for this one) :-D

how cold has it been and started?

This morning was -13, mine started right up. No problems so far (fingers crossed). I really would like to find a winter front. Hey Westy, what is that "4" on your avatar? That is on the right side of my 1009 too.
