    Forward Operating Base In-a-Can

Thanks for the suggestion, you'll note on the Broadband-HAMNET page that they recently released firmware for Ubiquity APs, and it seems like they are focusing around that brand. For my Tent AP, I will be using one Ubiquity Outdoor AC AP for the local clients, but for the mesh nodes I'm planning...

    Platform for an MEP-003a

    I though GlockFan's install was "A+" workmanship. It's worth a look and a read.

    Survival 109 build

Yes. If you are running a cheap inverter, or considering a cheap inverter, add the cost of this battery interrupter to the inverter and compare it to inverter models that have a low-voltage cut-out. If the cheapie-inverter+battery-interrupter is less than the more expensive inverter with a...

    Survival 109 build

If you're going to power house loads with the chassis batteries, consider a Priority Start device to ensure there is enough juice to get running again. 24V version 12V version Not sure if you changed the chassis batteries to 12V or not. Each version can be found for less than $100 shipped...

    Forward Operating Base In-a-Can

This work? He's the one who provided the pic at the bottom of the first post - he's "family", and I expect our kids will end up in the same Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop. IIRC there was a phase where he was indeed bouncing in San Francisco. :recovry4x4:

    Forward Operating Base In-a-Can

Hmmm, with two 100" rear projection screens, 8-speaker sound system, and centrally controlled lights... All I need is a folding wet bar and I'll have a mobile club... :grd:

    Forward Operating Base In-a-Can

Here's the first page... White Authorization Control - basically it's a control line and a supply line. When all of the white authorization switches are open, white is authorized. If any are closed, white is not authorized. This will let me put multiple control drops around the tent(s). If...

    Smoother Ride?

The reason for the bucket suggestion is that the spring bases would twist a bench due to uneven loading. If you could get it to connect the two bases to move in unison that would help, but you might have to DIY the spring base to do that well.

    Forward Operating Base In-a-Can

Yeah, okay - not that many channels :), it won't be pixel strips, but each 4'2" section will get one pixel controller IC. I'm more interested in being able to control the white point (warm for relaxing conversation or sleep areas, cool for task lighting and critical work areas). Like this...

    Forward Operating Base In-a-Can

Don't worry, it'll be documented with as good detail as I can manage. Similar to the engine tear-down/build for the XM1027. The first post has an updated lighting spec for the tent lighting. The jist: Each window and door section along the side of the Base-X tents are 5' Take a 5-Meter...

    Forward Operating Base In-a-Can

9U Hardigg case is on its way, just a hair under $200 (shipped) for a $2,200 case. Also, I picked up another ToughBook mobile docking station, that I will "gene splice" into a sliding rack mount shelf to house the ToughBook running Asterisk, VPN, Web-Proxy, and the 2G/3G/4G modem. I'm...

    Smoother Ride?

Air springs - these are $275 (plus labor or DIY, $50 rebate until Feb 2015, so ~$225). Limited Lifetime Warranty, 250-5000lbs of adjustable support, if plumbed right you can even take care of uneven loads... You'll probably get about 7-10 years out of them before the air bag(s) need to be...

    Smoother Ride?

Yeah what ^^they^^ all said. The suspension is designed for the maximum weight expected - so when you're empty it's not going to fight the spring so much. Taking out a leaf will reduce the spring force, adding an air spring (air bag, or air shocks) will get your capacity back and help you keep...

    Survival 109 build

Yes, the transition time is the critical part. Also the circulation around the container part that Mike talks about is a reason to look at your fridge and make sure it doesn't look like this: Over-packed refrigerators will never cool the food at the front properly, and with the doors open the...

    Survival 109 build

Yeah most people don't have food service training, that one is lost on people who aren't familiar with food safety. Take my parents... "science experiments" - just cut off the rotting part of the head of lettuce and keep the rest in the same bag it just came from, or just throw out the one...

    Very hot resistor....why?

To quote your thread title: "Very hot resistor....why?" Because that's what resistors do - they convert electrical power to heat. Same principal as your glow plugs. The amount of temperature rise is a function of design. The purpose of the ballast resistor is to drop the voltage by 50% from...

XM1027 - CUCV Crew Cab Build

Second half of today, almost have it down to components... Wife came back home refreshed, took the oldest kid and Grandpa came back and took the youngest. I pulled the oil pump and Injector Pump, had to go borrow a gear puller from Autozone: Pulled the old Dodge RAM cross-member: Pulled...

XM1027 - CUCV Crew Cab Build

Working on the engine some more today, first part was draining the oil (black!!) and removing the filter: Then I pulled the gear train cover: This is one of the things that destroys early (pre-'97.5) Cummins 5.9L 6BT engines and is one of the big reasons I decided to tear to engine down to...
