What's wrong with the gear reduction except you'll need a new bracket. I paid $103 to my door for a new one. Works great.

The black wire would have been the ground for the original isolated ground alternator. Looks like the alternator has been changed. Is this truck still 24v starting? With two alternators? Do I see air conditioning lines in the second pic? Lord knows what has been done to this truck!

Re: Tried to dyi caused problem. Help Please! It is the solenoid or relay if you like that controls the glow plugs. The smoke may have come from the fusible links that attach the glow plugs to it.
