Definitely a fuel sipper, my 85 1009 with 3.08 gears got 19mpg at 65-70, and 22mpg at 55. My 86 1009 with 4.56 gears gets 15mpg at 65-70mph. And 17-18 at 55-60. My 86 has a newer motor 400+psi per cylinder. 85 1009 200k miles.
Front: 3 leaf 1400 lb.spring or 4 leaf 1900 lb.spring ? Rear 5 leaf 1900 lb.spring or 6 leaf 2350 lb.spring ? The 3 leaf front and 5 leaf rear are stock on the 1009. Wondering how bad ride would be with the heavier rate springs.

My 86 1009 was regeared to 4.56 by the fire department before I bought it. I drive it at 65-70mph for hours at a time. I use GPS for speedometer and I have installed a tachometer, I try to keep rpm's at 3200 or less. But when aggravated with traffic I have spun up to 85mph. And I still get...
I do a compression test every year on my 1009, it will let you know if you have any compression problems, bad rings, valves not seating, bad head gaskets, cracked head.ect.
