Re: RE: Downshift or not to downshift?
The multifuel engine is not much different from any other diesel when it comes to engine braking, very little available. In a gas engine, closing the throttle creates a vacuum and it is used as a means of braking via the drive train.
The diesel is always...
Clinto, if you check in before getting too far South, perhaps you can cut West on HWY 58 and come by my place. Joel could get his locust lumber, which I failed to deliver to Aberdeen. Going South from my place on I-77 wouldn't add very much to you total.
Just a thought. I know Joel would be...
Have a great return trip Clinto and Brandon!
Clinto, did you get your windshield wiper motor fixed? If not, Rainex works very well.
Thanks for sharing all your pictures from the convoy/show.
Somebody pls, explain the bumper markings.
The "decimal point" in particular. Where was the picture taken?
My 1969 8x8 has "66T" on the left front bumper and I was told it was suposed to have "WD" in front of it for "War Department", was that advise incorrect? No evidence of "WD" has been...

A real steel soldier. :-)
I got a lot of blue smoke when I first hit the road after months of standing at idle and crane use. That would be unburned fuel, I guess. No black smoke and the amount of smoke tapered off during the drive. Really need a longer trip to "clean the pipes".
Mike and Clinto, you are there and you communicate via the steelsoldiers site! That's dedication. :-)
Last day of the show and no pictures? Come on guys.
About 1,100 °F, I didn't stay long enough at the high boost to give the EGT a chance.
Shows how important the pyro and boost gauges are, easy to do damage with more fuel available.
During a 10-mile test drive today, the turbo boost gauge pegged out at 15 psi. Before FDC bypass, the max reading had been 12 psi or so.
The turbo was really wipping the boost gauge needle around, never saw it respond so quickly.
The FDC was bypassed the other day and the unit itself replaced...
How do you tell them apart? I got one from Memphis some time ago and it has no markings except for the number 8376530.
My old one (from the 8x8) has "TOP" and "oz" marked on it.
Zipper on the new one is Cad plated (golden) and bigger, the original is zinc colored.
The new one smells like my old...
