Since we are on the subject of oil, I am going to change my tranny oil when installing my new PTO. What grade, brand, quantity is recommended for the duece tranny? I could'nt find it in the manual.
There sould be gaps in the bottom. Try using a coat hanger to fish around in there. I was able to use a coat hanger to pull a Q-tip that fell into my VW 1.9 Diesel cylinder during an injector nozzle swap (long story). If you can get a flash light and mirror in there that could help you see...
I also just found out those pumps are absolutely worthless unless they have the bottom cover. You could probably make a shim and cover out of some sheet metal and save yourself alot of money. Just use precision cutting with a jig saw. Beats spending $150 on anotherpump. I would triple check the...
Looks like you got a great deal, congrats. This is the place to come for anything MV related. LOts of great guys that are very knowledgable and willing to help.
Twinpinion, There is a radiator repair shop on San Fernando Rd next to Saugus Cafe, and an alternator repair shop in Newhall on Railroad Ave by Lyons Ave. You can have both of them as good as new probably for less than $200.
Hey Twinpinion, Are you the guy I met at the DMV a few weeks ago in Newhall? If so we'll have to get together and play with our trucks! Shoot me a PM. Devin
Thats a very nice set up dueceswild! Where did you get that box the guages are in? I have auto meter guages that require 12v for the pyrometer. Would'nt mind getting that set up.
If you injector pump was turned up, you might have burned holes in the pistons. I had one 6.2 melt holes in 3 pistons with too much EGT going up a big hill in the heat. worse case scenario, rebuild the motor for 2-3k if you can do the work yourself. If your lucky, just a head job. Good luck.
If you had to, you could pop off the exhaust stack, lay the troop seats flat in the bed, take the top off and fold down the windshield and that becomes about 81 1/2 inches tall with the steering wheel the tallest point, that is with 11-20's on it.
My opinion is French Camp is pretty far away and will cost an arm and leg to get it towed if it doesnt run. It would definately be worth the time for an inspection. Some GL people are customer oriented and will let you try and jump start it, some are not. I have never been to French Camp. $3500...
Ive always had good luck with an air hammer in the center of the shaft while using my knee to apply pressure on the bottom of the steering wheel and pulling on the top. They always pop right off within seconds.
I too carry my towbar in the truck however it is chained up in the bed. It will come in handy if I ever need to be towed or stumble across the smoking deal of a duece sitting in someones back 40!
I'm about 40 minutes from Ventura, Your more than welcome to stay at my place for a hot meal and a soak in the spa. We will definately have to hook up so I can see the one and only cranetruck! Keep us posted on your plans. I might be able to start scrounging up some WVO out here for your return...
Thats a nice truck! I had an 84 chevy crew cab w/6.2 diesel with ATS turbo kit. It ran great and got 18 mpg until my buddy melted holes in 3 pistons. I dropped in a 454 gas motor instead of rebuilding the GM diesel, I could only get about 8 mpg after that but it was pretty fast. Sold her about...
One night I cought a teenager who had broken into about 10 cars in a neighborhood. He had cell phones, cd's, keys and a bunch of change. After we located all the owners/victims of the property, I used one of the camera phones belonging to one of the victims and took a picture of the kid in...
