You had a diesel chevette and I had a diesel Isuzu and we both run CUCV's. Helps explain why I read all of your posts, I guess. I had a bearing go out in the transmission on the Isuzu, but it was summer. I delivered mail out of that car back in 1983 and 84, 5 speed and all, the all being tiny...
When I got mine I thought it was a 64 a1 but the Budd tag says it's a 67 a1. And I don't know where they got the serial # for the data plate. It was made up too. It is on the title so that's what I care about.
I've bought quite a few CUCV's over the years and the ones that have been modified are the trucks that have ended up as parts vehicles. I feel the reason for this are changes done on a tight budget coupled with inexperienced or overconfident owners. Most of the problems arise from attempted...
I had about 8 alternators to rebuild recently and found out 4 of them had bad rotors. They had shorts. I figured that they were toast, but held onto them with the hope there was a fix for this that I was missing, because when the rotor is bad it is too expensive to replace. Otherwise the others...
Thanks Cucvrus, These that I got were off a 1966 1/2 ton 4x4. I have not tried them, so it sounds like they won't fit. If it wasn't pouring rain today I'd put one on. I know the wheel was made because I have one, but only one. I do have a set of aftermarket spoke wheels that are 16's but I don't...
Cucvrus, Are these wheels the plain steel wheels that look like M1008 wheels only 6 lug?
999, I'll check out vintiques, but the price of something like that usually keeps me in the UPULLIT yard.
Thanks
I've been looking for some 16" chevy steel 6 lug wheels off and on and finally found a set. They look like the M1008 wheels only 6 lug. The problem is I think they may be only 5.5" wide wheels. Tires are still on and I don't have a caliper. I have found some aftermarket 6 lug, spoke 16's but...
At 3:30 this morning the horn goes off in my truck. At 1st I didn't know what the sound was and I ran around the house trying to figure out where that sound is coming from. My son is up too now, the dog is barking, I open the front door.... horn blaring! Then it stopped for like 1 or 2 seconds...
no change in the vibration after I put a hmmwv wheel and tire in the back along with other spare parts. Not a lot of weight and maybe I'll try more but it seems unlikely it is the springs. The road I live on is new and smooth as glass, but it vibrates in 2nd gear at 35mph and is especially...
Cucvrus, I first tried the 2 man method, I started in the rear. It took many, many pumps before any fluid showed. I thought something was wrong. The rear never flowed what I expected. I went to the front and they bled out normally. Since dot 3 and 5 got mixed I went with the cheaper, heavier dot...
I've got a similar problem with a new MC on a new purchase M1009. A rear brake line was leaking and the PO refilled with dot 3. I blew out the lines, bench bled the new MC, hooked it up, but the rear brakes portion of the mc hardly produce any flow. The rear brakes don't work at all. At half...
Replacing the front tires had no effect. I had these same rear tires on my sons truck where they ran fine. When the truck shifts from 2nd to third the vibration is hard to notice, because it is getting at the upper end of the vibe range. What seems to be is that while the vibes are lessening...
I suppose it could be anything causing it, but the vibration is fast. I can see the glove box flutter at 40mph. It is not a bouncing type of oscillation. The road I live on was paved last month and the surface is smooth, very smooth, but the vibration is unchanged. I changed out my 2 front tires...
It is not the driveline. I had the driveline totally rebuilt thinking it was the cause, but the vibration has not improved. I have run the hubs locked and unlocked without any difference. I have checked the motor mounts, but I will have to take a look at the trans mount. I'm going to put a...
I had enough time yesterday to jack up the truck. No bent wheels. I watched the balancer while it was running and it has no wobble whatsoever. There is no vibration noticeable unless you are moving, and traveling at a steady speed, or coasting makes the vibration hardly noticeable. Accelerating...
I bypassed the resistor totally and ran a 12v line to the same post that the resistor went to. That way the voltage never goes over 12 volts. The plugs still burn out occasionally but I avoid the domino effect on the rest of them when I lose one. I'll read the lenghty explanation when I have...
I went to napa and bought 2, but the vibrating truck has them(my mistake), the smooth running truck that has slop back there doesn't. I'm going to install them in the truck where they are missing. So it must be something else making this truck vibrate. I can't find anything in the drivetrain...
I looked at 4 of them in my driveway none of them had a clip in the u joint. The one my son uses runs smooth, but there is slop that a clip would correct. I can make it move a tiny amount by pulling on it. I'm going to give napa a call.
Thanks
