    LJ; Doesn't everyone have a spare $25G?

    clutchless shifting?

Gentlemen; 4th is the big reason why I double clutch. Going "'round the horn" from 3rd to 4th and double clutching does two things at once that eases stress on the tranny. First it allows the synchro to catch up to 4th from 3rd (I know from driving old White Bosses with the old fashioned...

one air tank gets all the water?

MM; That's normal. The inner tank is the secondary to the system and primary to the compressor. So, when you run the truck the inner tank kind of acts like a water filter. As soon as I can afford it ($100) I'm installing an air dryer on the truck to prevent the air system from rusting.

    clutchless shifting?

Guys; After driving 1.5 million miles I've learned with an unsynchronized tranny it's fine to glide the gears. However, with a syncronized tranny glidding is the death of them! I ALWAYS double clutch my baby because it is MUCH easier on the syncro.. I learned the hard way on my '85 Escort...

    Roadtrip prep

P-G; Oh yeah the brake fluid can come in handy. Plus with that 185, if she has a sprag I'd be very tempted to drop the front driveshaft to save fifth gear from excessive wear. metal shavings in the tranny is not a good omen for anyone. Also have some emergency triangles and if possible a cell...

    very perplexing axle question

MM; The sprag is a spring type engagement within the transfer case. The theory is when the rear axles start to spin 1/4 turn the sprag will put power to the front axle from the tension in the spring. However, this thoery does not always work in reality. There have been cases where the sprag...

    best source for surplus humvees?

MM; I have a wholesaler that sells them. My cost is $23,000 for a solid used one. He won't let junk or rebuilds out his door. Let me know if y'all are interested. It's cheaper than a civy one and more durable too.

retrofitting heater unit using the backyard method

MM; Check out my thread on the wiring a fuse in with the heater and horn. I have pics that should help you with the heater location and where to put the hose in and so on.

    an interesting deuce conversion

MM; I can see me building something like that for my son when he gets to driving age. I want something that will be tough, unique, slower than a car, yet be able to drive on the highway, and be able to get out of most off-road situations. He would also have an appreciation for the limits of...

air shift or part time conversion for sprag

MM; I too have a sprag. The only practical option is to swap the transfer case to an air actuated one. Yeah, it's a pain in the butt, however, it causes the least problems in the long run.

retrofitting heater unit using the backyard method

MM; Another option depends upon your sheet metal forming skills. Just take a heater core from your local auto parts store and form a sheet metal box around it, don't forget to make a cover too, put a fan motor on one end and a vent hose on the other and PRESTO CHANGEO you have heat once you...

MSRP and registration costs and GVW

WE; In Indiana, the current owner has to provide a replacement title if the original is lost for some reason. They must fill out the title replacement form and it takes about six weeks before a new one is issued. Plus the DMV also makes a physical inspection of the vehicle and runs a VIN check...

windshield wipers- how are they supposed to work?

Guys; Try some rubbing alcohol in the lines and crank the air to full. After that put some air tool lube in the line and again crank it up to full blast. You may need to manually return the pump to the other side at first. There is a little butterfly type of lever on the inside that can stick...

    military three lever light switch

MM; I have the manuals in print. I can send the photocopies you need. I know LH can do the same. I suspect it would be quicker getting the info from him since he's very close to Chicago. I'm out in the boonies so mail takes it's time getting here. P.S.- Ken your CD showed up today. Thanks!
