Never mounted a tag on any of my trucks -- 5 tons or Humvees-- never been stopped. I also don't drive like an idiot..... rode bye and have been passed bye leo's and usually get a wave or a thumbs up!
As a retired tech-- I have always yellow glued a cork gasket or any gasket for that matter. If you have a gasket-- no silicone. Always the exception on ends of oil pans, manifolds, waterpumps,etc... Had good luck this way for 30 plus years.
Get two furniture dollys from harbor freight and screw a sheet of plywood the size of the motor. You probably wont ever need to use it again after the install, and this set up is on the cheap.
I installed a 21si single wire 24v. I ordered it online/with a 2 groove 7/8 bore pulley. You will have to do a little fab work ,but nothing hard. It wont overvolt and fry your electronics. 74m35a2 sells them also-- he's a member.
Out with the old rod slinger--- in with the new motor. Sad thing is that the engine that I pulled was new. When I drained the oil cooler clear, clean water drained out. Also when I spun the oil filter off, clean water drained from that. What do you guys think--- someone sank it soon after...

His old engine has a rod through the oil pan. On the upside-- at least the engine is not seized! I can turn it over to access the convertor

I've been telling people to throw the govt. alternators in the dumpster since I went to the dark side. I have run this set-up on both my 5 tons and my Humvee with no problems to report. Unless you have to have a military alt. for museum or show purposes, I would ditch the stock wire smoker...
