Can't you just run it off a 5-gallon jerry-can? If you plan to use it with the M1031, you should be able to use similar plumbing for an arctic cargo heater to fuel that genny, and would allow you to plug in a 5-gallon can for field jobs.
I think the 5-gallon Scepter fuel tanks have a fuel...
You ever see Blade Runner? The quote about running things hard applies there:
In order to run the engine reliably at those revs under load, you'd have to do a lot of work: balance the engine components better, increase bearing sizes and strengths, use different heat treatments on shafts to...
240 is still single phase, unless it's three phase delta. The two 120 "phases" you find in residential are from a center-tapped 240V transformer (center tap is neutral, and grounded). For a 3-phase AC that doesn't use the neutral, a 240V single phase supply wouldn't work - two of the three...
I ran one of their HO alternators once, worked for a while - died too soon (6 months). I ended up replacing it with an Ohio Generator alternator, and I've been running that for 5 years under the same conditions on my Toyota pickup. I reserved that comment before since I didn't see how it...
A series resistor (the glow plug ballast resistor) only current limits, the apparent voltage dropped is relative to the current fighting to get through the resistor. Because of this, resistors are terrible regulators for complex systems. You will find that if you add more load after a ballast...
You haven't really spoken to the issue of your budget, so the criteria are:
Cheap <-- kind of nebulous
Multimeter functionality for all purposes
Clamp meter for MEP diagnostic use
Frequency counter for MEP diagnostic use
Continuity function that "beeps"
Reliable/tough
So just summarizing...
I like my Fluke 175. They can be had for less than $150 if you find the right seller (look for open box, etc...).
If you need a current clamp meter, you might consider the Fluke 375 - good up to 600Amps, and still multimeter + frequency-counter.
Electrical military gauges, many New-Old-Stock (NOS), are matched to sender that are not available any more - others come with the sender, but the sender is no longer calibrated. Then the electrical gremlins sit down for a party - bad grounds, mis-sized wires, incorrect power, bad used wires -...
Ha - I was saying isolate hot oil, flammable fuel, and air pressure from the cabin - and CAN-bus only assumes you have CAN instruments...
What, you don't run your 6.2's injection pump with a Sun SPARC station? :) How are you supposed to turn on the windshield wipers without sending a text with...
Thanks jesusgatos and Pfab for the help moving the shelter today. Loading it was a bit sketchy, and went to plan-b, but unloading it was easier and faster and as planned. No injuries or damage this time to Pfab's truck, the only casualty was my cell phone's screen cover glass... It got run...
I agree, so use a "process isolator" for anything you don't want in the cab:
Mechanical Gauges:
Pressure: diaphragm or piston isolator, using incompressible/inert glycol in the cab
Vacuum: diaphragm or piston isolator, using incompressible/inert glycol in the cab
Temperature: longest...
Engine is moving to a garage this weekend - finally get to pick at that itch again. Day-job has slowed a little, but it is on a hair trigger.
I'm working on the CAD model for the cab cage, I'll post pictures of it once I have it just right - AutoCAD will let me do structural analysis before I...
The dual function one you linked is 2.7" Wide x 2.1" high X 0.4" deep - the second single function one you linked is actually bigger at 4.9" wide x 2" high x 0.3" deep. If those values are accurate, you could just about fit two of those dual function meters in the space of one of the single...
A bit late in the thread but, have you thought about Greenheart?
Probably the stiffest wood in the world, fire resistant, rot and insect resistant. This is popular as piling, or decking. I believe the NJ boardwalk was rebuilt out of Greenheart - when they had a fire recently the Redwood...
As an alternative to a dual voltmeter - would putting a selector switch on there be acceptable?
Same goes for fuel gauges if you have multiple tanks...
Basics:
Road speed
Tach
Fuel (one for each tank if equipped with multiple)
Volts (one for each voltage if 12/24, or dual circuits)
Oil pressure
Engine cooling water temperature
At a minimum :)
Then go nuts if you have any children or body parts left to sell:
Engine oil temperature...
