Picked up the transmission:
340 mile round trip in 6 hours. Jose from Valley Truck Parts out of Fresno, CA hooked it up - very hard to find an FSO-8406A right now from talking to them (and searching extensively myself). There is probably a bunch of people doing the modification I'm doing...
They are used in current combat environments (not surprising, they are awesome!), are ITAR controlled (certain signal transmission and reception capabilities can be a "munition"), and the company is providing information I need so that I can correctly design the system around them (probably more...
All Communications/Entertainment.
Gauges, engine, transmission, transfer-case, and differentials are all manual or self-powered (mechanical) so basically anything that's not headlights, brake-lights, wipers, or the starter or fuel pump are not critical in this truck's electrical system design -...
The wiring diagram is done, but I still haven't figured out the picture posting thing - I may have to break the wiring diagram up into smaller images to have it upload correctly. I'll try that later tonight.
I won a keyboard on eplace for the CarPuter that will go into this truck for $0.99 -...
Define minor :). I'd define that as keeping the wheel load center within the two bearing races - and further, if you take the measurement between the two bearing race centers and divide it by three, your wheel load center should not fall outside the center 1/3 of that measurement.
Wheel...

Continuing. I've done a basic explanation of DC power and a simpler part called a resistor. Now I wan to build on that concept by discussing something called Equivalent Series Resistance, or "ESR".
The concept of a resistor is simple because it has a known and usually calibrated Ohm...
Now forgive me if I just skip the super detailed explanation of Volts, suffice it to say that is is the energy or "force" that we impart into an electrical system that overcomes the resistance. I'm going to leave Joules and getting into the laws of thermodynamics on the sidelines for the sake...
Electricity is the movement of electrons through a medium (conductive material) - electrons are those funny orbiting things you heard about on the outside of atoms in school (remember your valence shells?). Specifically, an Amp-Hour (electron flow rate) is a measurable number of electrons...
There is one math terminology that I feel should also be put forth at the outset, metric notation, or exponent short-hand.
This would be Mega, Kilo, Giga, Tera, Pico, Nano, Femto, Micro. These should sound familiar due to terms like "gigabyte" or "micrometer"
Basically for every exponent of...
Electricity is often taught with a water analogy since water is easy to see and most people have obvious daily interactions with it, where "volts"="water-pressure", "current"="water-flow-rate". A "switch"="valve", a "battery"="water-tank", an "alternator/generator"="water-pump"...
There have been many forum threads that have members poking at electrical modification projects, and tiny "I did this, this way" comments buried in those threads. After being asked about one of those type of projects, I felt there should be a more involved and dedicated thread that deals with...
Yeah but (and I'm not disagreeing with your desire for conservatism here...), remember they connect the power cables to the breaker panel with clamping set-screws - same on the main power feed on the wire/pole. I wouldn't use wire nuts for 10kW, but I'd feel perfectly fine using power splice...
Looks really clean, nice job :)
Probably the certification process that costs so much - after that they like to bend you over and "service the account..."
