Didn't do much on the truck this weekend other than prep work for next weekend. And so... the spending spree begins.
Rear bumper (that I didn't have with the original truck) should be here tomorrow from HillBillyWizard (THANKS!!!). I have been speaking to HAWKMAN about the rear Blazer-type...
Fremont, but I work in your location... (see legal disclaimer in signature, as required by work)
I like the color of your M1008 for this area (I'm sure you're familiar with the dust around here), and where you put the spare. Nice :)
Update for this past weekend,
I broke a stud on gear train cover trying to remove power steering pump - now I need a new cover. I might use that as an excuse to upgrade to a P-pump (and there goes the budget...).
Oh and so much for tying to get the fabrication and paint done by the first rain...
You don't have Optima's in there do you? They tend to fail "instantly".
Also double check your blackout lights, if you snag the toggle on your way in or out of the truck, you could run the battery down (shouldn't happen during a short pit-stop though).
Thanks for the pep talk guys. The reason I was not able to work on it this weekend is the Rim Fire, burning near Yosemite. My parent's cabin is up there (for now) just got back from what may be the last trip up there... Got a few things, took pictures for insurance.
[Update:]
I figured I...
Didn't get to work at the truck last weekend, not looking good for this weekend. Most of my time is being spent right now lining up parts... Should be back to working on the tear-out next weekend (first week of September). I need to blast through the fabrication and exterior body work in...
For RF grounding, there are a few concepts you will want to learn.
Skin effect. Basically the higher the frequency, the shallower a signal will penetrate a conductor. To this effect, at higher frequencies, a wide flat strap or metal foil is better at conducting an RF signal in its entire...
Got a bunch of hits on my parts wanted classified ad [EDIT:] See PDF below for ad [/EDIT] - I should more or less have all of the parts I wanted to make this truck look right lined up. Everything else will need to come from other "retail" sources. Got some samples for the interior - I will be...
Take a look at DynaPad - different product from Dynamat, but has a Vinyl floor surface on the top. I used it in my Toyota with good results (did the firewall, floor, and rear wall).
This product is a multi layer item - a soft layer of closed-cell insulation, a layer of loaded mass (like...
*sigh* This is why I moving my whole XM1027 to 24 volts. This 12/24 stuff gets messy quick.
Your 12Volt (low-side) alternator is going to be working much harder since it is running the whole truck (minus the starter and the glow-plugs), plus charging one of the engine batteries - and now you...
You don't necessarily want the track width to be matched (unless you are trying for a look). The difference in the Wheel Mount Surface (WMS) values is due to the load center relative to the center of the spindle bearing (in general you want the load centered over the bearing, not cantilevered)...
I am having custom wheels built by Stazworks in Wisconsin, for my XM1027 project. I have Dana 60 front and Dana 70 rear, which makes the axles the same as the M1028A3 (Dually shelter carrier variant of the M1008 ).
So... Kind of? :)
In bolts/studs, you want a minimum of two threads visible beyond the nut (unless you have acorn nuts, then you don't want to see threads :) ). If your studs are too short to even make it through the nut with thicker mounting flanges on your wheels, you are running the risk of stripping the...
Did I read correctly that you have converted your whole truck to 12volt?
If so, you should be able to use the radio power bus as a charging source. Make sure you use a fuse sized to protect the wire. A relay would be the easiest way to protect the truck electrical from your extra battery...
Didn't quite get as far as I wanted today, family time took too much time.
Didn't quite get the dashboard off, but I didn't have time to pull the windshield before I lost light. Wiring inside the dash is much worse than it looked on the surface, it's a rats nest, splice city. Found another...
$1150 is the price for a set of Crane high-steer chromoly knuckles. Figure I don't want to break them again, and it probably broke because it hit something... Off topic: sorry I didn't buy your M1031, didn't seem like a good idea to chop up a real CUCV for this project :).
So I got back to the pre-work clean up today, and remembered to take a picture of the engine minus the transmission and the other accessories finally:
In addition to organizing my "don't need it pile", I started on some of the clean up of the axles and transfer case. The NP205 was...
Forgot to mention, I also got an email from a wheel vendor in Wisconsin yesterday, so I should have my wheels lined up. 20"x9" bead-locks (also called double-bead-locks by some), with cold-rolled rock rings, and the factory look to the center section. Finding the 20"x9" for a dually truck's...
Wow, already a week gone by... Got the G3 MVLS from Optimum Vehicle Logistics. It's pretty :)
This isn't as cheap as the G1 version that you can still get, but it has internal current limiting (like the old 3-lever type), and ESD/Surge/EMI protection. I'm going to keep the currents low...
