How many M1028's did they make?

When a M1028 was delivered was it outfitted with the shelter carrier hardware or was that installed with the shelter. In other words were M1028's all built as shelter carriers first?

    very slight rough idle

Mine runs smooth now. The slight miss got worse and the glass bead in the IP return line plugged. After the IP was changed it was almost gone, but the fuel pump started leaking. The fuel pump probably was leaking for some time but the leak got worse and after it was changed that took care of the...

    cucv engine idle

My M1009 when I 1st got it was covered in sound proofing and the timing mark was retarded approx 1/8". It was quieter than a gas engine of that vintage. Mileage and power were down, but not huge. I have since removed the sound deadening material and reset the timing to the mark. It now makes...

    Engine Oil Cooler Pipes

I would look in a wrecking yard for the OEM, but I'd look into an aftermarket cooler. Probably would do a better job of cooling the oil anyway.

    engine swap problems

Was the rough idle like a miss or random. Does it start hard? You said finally got it to start. Could be pulling air. I would check down at the pump first, since those connections are new.

Cheap china starter relay vs. more expensive, more reliable U.S.A. made relay

The bottom line isn't where its made but if it works 100% of the time. As far as I know the napa relay has never failed when it has replaced the OEM relay. My comfort level is good with the $12 relay and the cost is nice but if you think you need to spend more to sleep better then another $12 is...

So what, exactly, keeps the turbo pressure of 6.2s at 10 psi??

It must accelerate faster with a turbo from a stop but that is controlled with your foot. That could cause additional engine strain. I would like to add a turbo for efficiency, but I want my engine to last. Thanks

So what, exactly, keeps the turbo pressure of 6.2s at 10 psi??

I don't think the Banks turbo adds fuel other than the ability to burn it with more air and if you don't turn up the fuel on the IP then it seems that the turbo wouldn't help much over a NA engine at sea level, but would see gains over a NA engine as the elevation rises. So unless I'm missing...

    fuel pump replacement

I think I will go with electric if there is a next time. It would make it easier to bleed air out of the filter after a change also. When I started the R&R I didn't think it would be quite the pain it was.

So what, exactly, keeps the turbo pressure of 6.2s at 10 psi??

I think what limits the boost is the fact that the banks turbo only is capable of 10 lbs boost. There is no waste gate and no intercooler is needed with that low of boost. Correct me if I'm wrong. I want to add a turbo for economy at higher elevations, and pulling a load. I see alot of 6.2's...

    EMP Ready M1009 question

a massive Coronal ejection, would it have to be aimed at earth to be damaging and harmful. How often does this event occur? 2 of my children and myself are diabetic, we would be some of the 1st to go.

    EMP Ready M1009 question

I think looting could be a big problem in some areas but I also think that people are basically good and we won't become animals. Generators will bring a premium but they are out there now as back up. I might be naive and have a higher opinion mankind than is deserved. I think people will help...

    EMP Ready M1009 question

The chinese know more about our electric grid than we do and its not because they want to copy it but what I'm most concerned with now is a huge solar flare. I'm concerned but really know nothing about how it would affect the Earth. If it does happen its over with within seconds, is that...

    fuel pump replacement

That whole job is a PITA. Especially reattaching the flared fitting on the pump. I've been working on it after work with a flashlight, for 3 evenings. I haven't started the truck, and check for leaks. I have to bleed the air out first, but right now I want to feel like the I'm done. Thanks for...

    Headlights flashing on and off

You don't need to remove it just work it. I was told to do this and my switch and headlights now work like they should. I would at least give it a try. The switch is mounted on the outside of the column. Work the lever, you'll see the rod move and work the switch.

    fuel pump replacement

If the pump goes in, the pump should be in correctly and if the pushrod is too low or falls down then the pump won't go in? I've been working on this outside after dark after work which makes it all the more interesting. Thanks, Greg

    fuel pump replacement

I'll feel around in there. What you say makes sense. The cam may be on the low side because the rod wasn't pushing out the pump when I took it off. Thanks, Greg

    fuel pump replacement

I pulled the fuel pump off because it was leaking, unfortunately it wasn't the hose. It is a very tight place to work. I can't see the pushrod. I left that alone. It looks like the replacement pump can be bolted back in place without concern about the pushrod according to the TM. but wanted to...

    Headlights flashing on and off

If its just the headlights flashing on and off and your truck has been sitting its probably the high/low switch getting corrosion in it. (That can happen in your light switch also). Work that thing 100 times and it will get better. If they go out when your driving flick that switch a couple of...

    M1009 Gun Mounts

The racks are the same in the pickups. The brackets they mount to are the only difference and the brackets are permanently mounted anyway. The brackets in the pickups don't hold up very well and alot of owners probably end up taking them out because they rattle when they get loose.
