Yeah, but I wouldn't let that stop you.... There will be a last minute cancellation, even on the day you arrive you can probably go into the office and find a space. Jim and I have adjoining spaces. We're not really sure how big they are, but the last time we squeezed both of our deuces into...

Interesting that there was no detectable slop in the bearing caps..... Maybe their needles were rusted up? A 'post mortem' analysis would be nice. I don't like that there are no zerk fittings on the stock u-joints. Does normal PM work consist of removing the drive shaft to inspect or replace...
Thanks for all the well-wishing guys! I was really lucky, it was a "non-displaced fracture" (or it set itself) along with the worst bruise I've ever seen. After a few weeks, the bruise went yellow and it started to itch, and after a month it was pretty much back to normal.
When I'm walking...

I've been trying to find gaskets and seals that aren't made in China or Korea.... I no longer think I have a choice. Ebay, Memphis, OD Iron... They're all selling New Star brand.

Slave cable. I'm rarely out driving my deuce where there are not other MVs around and If I am, someone with a deuce is on speed dial. If that fails, two cars with jumper cables, one car hooked to each battery, works well. Compressed air? You're ass-out.
It would definitely be cool though...
I'm rebuilding my PTO, and I need not only the gasket(s) to mount it on the trans but also the 3 other gaskets - front, rear and side cover. I'll call Memphis if I have to, but are there any other, less expensive sources? Also I want the 3 seals and 2 boots but I do not want Chinese/Korean...
It's a shame he won't sell parts.... He has all those V-18A/MTQ pole-setting trucks, and the one shown in this picture has the bed-mounted strap sheave assembly I need (white arrow). I have never been there in person, but I talked to him on the phone and he said he wants to sell complete...
I've towed three different deuces with my deuce and tow bar. Two of them I had no problem, I even backed up once (with a friend in the cab just in case), and sharp turns were no problem either. The third deuce just would not turn. I quickly got used to starting the turn, and then stopping...
Thanks for the explanation Rod! I figured the reason must be to run it a bit advanced for better performance.
Thanks for the compliment Clinto! It's funny how projects evolve... Originally I was just going to "get it running." Then when I found the original engine seized and full of water, I...
The 71 series was the only one to have a solid cast v12 block.... The 92 series was two v6 blocks. I don't know if they ever made a 12v-53, I've never seen one but it would have been two v6 blocks if they did.
The largest 92 series was a 16v-92 (two 8v blocks) and the largest 71 series was the...
That Tiny-Tach won't work on a Gama Goat because the Detroit 3-53 doesn't have injection lines.... The injectors are directly driven by a cam lobe so there is nowhere to put the Tiny-Tach pickup/sensor. Try an ISSPRO tach, they are triggered by a little magnet that you epoxy to the harmonic...
I think you could stuff a 12v71 into an 800-series 5 ton, but it will not be a simple drop in job. An easy fit that matches the original engines' capabilities would be a 6v-53 or a 6-71. NAPCO used to offer 6v-53 conversion kits for 5 tons (and 4-53 kits for deuces). The 12v is much wider...
