The output shaft will always be trying to spin in neutral and the engine running, there is a mass of components spinning on the input that that are riding on bushings/bearings and clutches that are wet with fluid on the output shaft, simple friction and fluid surface tension dictates the motion...
Anybody that would intentionally drive into deep water let alone salt water is an idiot, just my opinion ;)
EDIT, of course if you are in the military that is different it's not like they own or give a damn about what happens to the vehicle a few years down the road.
Maybe someone else can chime in, I have not tried it myself but read it is "doable" but a REAL PITA.
So I would give it as much time as possible before going that route.
If it is really loud you should be able to tell which lifter it is with the valve cover off. (edit it will have play in it...
If it is a lifter it should be clear what side of the engine the noise is coming from you can verify buy listening to the valve cover on that side.
I use (CAREFULLY) a large screw driver with the handle end to my ear.
How many miles have you driven or time have you spent with the engine running...
You may want to carefully inspect the front drive shaft, especially the carrier bearing.
Although possible it is unlikely your truck has enough miles on it to wear out the chain.
We have a rather complete set of TMs listed here, please take advantage of them as they are free.

You should start with the -10 Operators manual, you will find information like this, that can save you many dollars and headaches in the...
Welcome to the SS forums.
It sounds like a leaking lifter not able to stay pumped up, sometimes they will clear up on their own but if not you may need to replace it.
This is exactly why so many preach to do a FULL service on any surplus vehicle before riding around the neighborhood showing off their new toy, or thinking it is a good idea to hitch hike down to the yard and driving their new purchase home.
The most important thing is you probably do not have a CDR valve (#18 in the above schematic), this leaves a direct opening into the engine intake and one piece of trash gets in there and the engine is toast!!! (read do not run or wash the engine until fixed)
The cut wires are for a radio...
Yea, not sure why the NA chip got so expensive, same damn part with a little different programming.
I can reprogram the chips from the original TCM, the Eastern chips are read only, no way to erase them to reprogram, I have the NA and Turbo files.
The chips are easy enough to get but they are...
There are many plastics, GASKETS and O RINGS used in pre 2005 vehicles that are completely incompatible with Dexcool, as GM found out when they switched and 10s of thousands of vehicles failed, I certainty would not take the chance.
For the price difference I would use the $17.00 one and fudge the TPS setting to fine tune the shift points.

The eproms are cheap and easy to get, you should be able to get the entire TCM with eprom for about 250 or so much cheaper than the alternative not to mention the work involved.
I made an early run to the beach today to check out the crowd, it was packed as I expected, it was cloudy and pretty breezy, I saw allot of collapsed tents and awnings
The water was rather angry also this morning.
Now this is a Texas size flag, the DuraVee is directly under the...
You are 100% wrong, it all about making it weather and vibration proof, anyone that is serious about "tampering" with it would have no problem getting into it.
I mounted the tires on the DuraVee today, out of the 5 there were 2 that had no detectable radial runout and took less than 5OZ to balance (one of these was the one I did not mount with the bead locks first)
1 of them had detectable radial runout (spinning the tire on my test setup) and took...
On any custom order tempered is always more expensive than laminate, it must be cut first then tempered, most glass houses have no way to temper, laminate can simply be pulled out of stock and cut.
