Take each glow plug wire off, CLEAN BOTH THE WIRE END AND THE GLOW PLUG END and then reconnect everything and try it again.
I was having similar problems. What I found was that the front of the valve cover leaked a little oil ONTO the glow plug connector. On both sides of the engine. Once...
Which M1028 do you own? HOW did it crack? You might want to investigate those issues PRIOR to doing anything.
If it ends up being a one time deal, fine. If it is because a bracket or other attachment point is missing? You might need to correct those issues prior to doing ANYTHING ELSE.
OK, lets get this straight.
You can get a NEW dash pad directly from any Chevy/GM dealer.
OK, they cost $600 and they come in GRAY only.
But, after purchasing the CORRECT dash, I had to paint it.
Go to your local auto body paint store (assuming there is one in your city). Mine read the...
That is mine.
Mine just seems to be leaking air.
I can't say why until I remove it.
I actually got three bases cheap. So once replaced, I'll rebuild it with a new base on the mounting bracket. I'll reuse the three sensors on the old base. HOPEFULLY that's not where the leak is occurring...
My fuel filter backing plate is leaking air. It causes my M1009 to be hard starting.
I'm waiting for the weather to warm up and then I'll replace it. I HOPE that will resolve most of the problems.
You can literally hear a really low whistle while turning it over. BUT you can only hear it if...
Well, I own two CUCV's with the lowly 6.2 engine.
Neither of my vehicles see more than 2000 miles a year. I'm retired. I don't get out much. I drive which ever truck the task at hand requires.
And if my 'whaling' on the 6.2 engine causes it to fail at 50 - 60k miles, that's OK. I have a...
Just plug and play your info into this calculator...
Gear Ratio Calculator
I ran my M1028A2 (not the A3 that I originally thought - it has the NP205 transfer case) 1800 miles from Scranton, PA to Denver, Co over four days.
I CONSISTENTLY ran 65 mph. Which according to the Gear Ratio...
I paid a little over $5k for my M1028A2 dually with 13k miles.
WORTH EVERY PENNY.
When you find yours, you will know. And you will pay ANYTHING to get it.
Just get out there and keep beating the bushes. YOURS IS OUT THERE.
Good luck and happy hunting. After all, the hunt is as much fun...
If youse guys would just come out and join the MVCC (Military Vehicle Collectors of Colorado), I'll personally introduce you to a friend of mine.
He's a diesel mechanic by trade. And while he mainly drives a deuce, he also has a Sub with a 6.2L.
Now, the truth is, the 6.2L is a fairly stout...
That would be Gov Ritter with 70Duece.
Did you like the CUCV? That one was mine. Kinda weird. Being inside. But it was a great time.
LONG DAY. Started early for positioning of vehicles at 9:30 am, which finished around 1pm. Then back home to S3 and back in uniform to the convention center...
EXCELLENT. That's info I was unaware of.
THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Now all I gotta do is FIND my spare switches. I know they are around here somewhere.
That and a clean up of the fuse box with an emery board and a complete new set of fuses seems to be in order.
THANKS EVERYONE. I'm off to get a...
I thought that was the case.
But again, why no horn. It appears to be on a seperate circuit.
Well, I've got an emery board to clean up the fuse holders and new fuses are in order anyway...
Thanks so much for ALL the info. I'll let you know what I find out.
service switch IS in the 'on' position. first thing I checked.
That's why I asked. I'm probably going to remove that.
But, even if it was the service switch, WHY no horn?
Dang man, my arms and back are killing me. I just finished unloading 2000 lbs of camo net support poles (32 sets - 60...
Well, all of a sudden, I don't have lights - head light, tail light, brake lights, running lights, and turn signals - plus no horn.
Heater works. Windsheild wiper works.
Go figure.
All fuses appear ok. I'll be replacing them all shortly. But I ASSUME it's either the light switch on the...
It's funny you mention the glow plugs.
Most people will tell you to just replace them.
Guess what? One of the things you do when you replace them is clean all the connections before you put the new GP's back in.
I've found that because the engines on these seem to leak a little around...
wl_1008,
The only time you will need to drain/bleed the fuel filter and bleed the injectors is if it's sat FOREVER and was never started. Sometimes that old mechanical pump struggles to refill it all.
And knowing where and how to get air out of your fuel system will only occur when you run out...
wl_M1008,
Welcome.
You should be able to handle it. The diesel maintenance is pretty similar. No plugs to worry about or distributor.
But you gotta keep the IP functioning well.
Having one with 41k miles is pretty good. I've got an M1009 with more miles and an M1028A2 (dually) with less...
With the medium military tow bar, and the help from Crash AF, we towed my M1028A2 about five miles from an auto parts store where it died (starter bolt fell out, go figure) to my house.
Given the distance and the fact it was city streets, Crash just lit up his yellow light bar and away we...
Well, I've just got to pipe in on this one.
I've BEEN to this shop.
Folks, you can EAT off the floors. He gave me a tour in the middle of a busy day, they didn't stop to clean up, it's just KEPT that way.
Now I don't know about you, but how a mechanic keeps his work station, his bench, his...
