Zout, the cowl looks good from my perspective. I really share your pain on the popup vent. At 106 temp, if you install a rubber seal and press the vent against it, it should form up really nice. I did mine in the winter and used a heat gun. If I didn't, it would have stayed up there like a...
I hate working on those vent seals. The 43's looks like the one I had to do on my '50 Ford F-1 restoration. It was a real pain but if you didn't do it right, it leaked like a sieve. Good luck with yours.
