    Went pretty FAST today.

Makes one wonder how the governor works, should be set at 2,900 rpm max...of course going downhill defeats it....

    Pyrometers, options, mounts...

Ryan, are you referring to this? It's the intake manifold heater nozzle, the smaller fitting is the inlet and the larger is the return fuel line. If you haven't checked it, remove it and make sure it doesn't leak fuel into the intake manifold, mine did at one time. Nice installation, Jeff!

How loing will these things run

....Also, the "engine hours" may be a better measure of life expectancy. I have some 1,500 "hours" on my multifuel. It is furthermore not a linear accumulation of time, for lower rpms, the clock runs slower (it's tied in with engine rpm). So, say that at highway speeds it should be more like...

How loing will these things run

They are designed for different purposes. The deuce is designed to perform on a moment's notice anywhere at any time over a 20-25 year period, kind of like a missile in a silo. Lots of maintenance, few miles ever driven. My M49A2C fuel tanker had about 3,000 actual miles on it after 27 years in...

    Batteries died today

RE: interesting... No drain, Mike, checked the specific gravity before charging the batteries individually and they were all over the place, pretty sure the batteries were ready for the grave yard, should have left it alone and just replaced them, that's the moral of the story. I checked the...

    Batteries died today

Nobody likes the "click, click" from the starter solenoid, but after almost six years with these batteries, I'm not surprised. Champion "Trail Blazer" 65-2A, purchased in Oct of 2000, finally gave out. Made one little mistake, though, decided to try one last time to charge them individually...

    Heating the WVO/biodiesel

Ken, the control panel for the dual tank system is shown in the image above. The temp gauge monitors the fuel temp in the tank. On a long drive, the temperture will hit 120°F or so without heating it at all. the return fuel will gradually heat the fuel. Based on my "viscosity gauge", the FDC...

A good location for a Pyrometer Thermocouple?

The cast iron exhaust manifold is easy to drill and tap, just use plenty of oil.

    Wiring mods!

The attention to detail is what makes the difference! Nothing like having the right tools on hand. Where is the cab coming from, Lake City?

A good location for a Pyrometer Thermocouple?

    They are probably selling turbos....:-)

    Rotated tires today

Thanks again Kenny! The parts will come to good use. The brake drum got smoking hot during the test run yesterday, so it's coming apart as soon as the stuff arrives. :-) Joel, the trucks were designed with 1100's in mind, as you know, there is plenty of space, haven't measured the clearance...

So, anyone need some 6LT's? (humorous pic, not serious)

An estimated count of the batteries more or less in view, gives me 9,600 batts...

    Rotated tires today

The trailer comes with 1100's, it 's pretty heavy at 9,000 lb and would put 900-20 tire's to the test.

    Rotated tires today

In preparation for the cross country trip, I decided to borrow the almost new tires from the laundry trailer to get rid a a nasty shimmy. Here are several images of the procedure, took about two hours. Knuckleboom + hydraulic outriggers = success A test drive later went very well, no shimmy...

    Mud runs

My deuce came from the USMC with some deep fording kit items factory installed, like the low pressure regulator, "fording handle" on the dash, a check valve between the air tanks and the associated plumbing. That made it easier fo me to complete the installation with store bought parts. I...

    Mud runs

There is a breather valve on the transmission. It is located just forward of the shift lever. I have a "sealed" pressurized breathing system on my deuce where all breather valves (except the transmission one) are plumbed together. They are normally vented high on the engine fire wall and can be...

Plans for California trip in the works

Hmm... thanks Gary, I'll check the difference in milage. No, I don't have any compelling reason to take the Southern (I-40) route going West. If possible, I rather hook up with Wade going East when he too has a deuce.

    Mud runs

The fording kit includes a low pressure regulator, which pressurizes the bellhousing/transmission when the bell housing plug is installed. The shift lever boot must seal good for this to work right with the breather valve letting out air in the process.. The T-case has a breather valve only...

    Antenna Mount??

RE: mount Cabell, couldn't you install the mount in its "normal" location on the bed side and simply unscrew the antenna part when dropping the side? Isn't there space for the mount or would it hit something? Just a thought...

    Gauging the deuce

Thanks Joel, got one here on my desk. I used the 10-16 volt gauge because of the voltage range, need to change some circuitry for 20 to 32 volt military gauge....
