Hi Bjorn,
I glanced through that Allison spec manual, it shows that their C-4 fluid meets the MIL-L-2104 spec. Why not just buy Allison C-4 fluid then? I'm sure any Detroit Diesel / Allison dealer in the country would have it in stock, and you definitely wouldn't have to worry whether you were...
Siphon it from the tanks of thousands of dead vehicles!
I have an old Ford pickup with the 6.9 diesel, which is very similar in many ways to the GM 6.2 & 6.5, the glow plug controller looks almost the same (externally at least)... Internally there's not much to it, it's just got some...
Your reverse gear is worn, probably from people grinding it many times in the truck's past. I've taken transmissions apart that were popping out of reverse and the gear teeth were almost completely worn away!
I always bump a forward gear before putting the trans into first or reverse, it...
 Great tips! I'm making mental notes for future reference... I may have pulled an engine before thinking of either of these. There's quite a bunch of mechanics on this site.
Regards,
Jon
I agree... If it hydrolocked while running the pistons and rods would be bent / broken. It sounds like it seized before the oil pressure had a chance to come up and / or there's a problem with the oil pump or oil (diluted with fuel, etc.). Not good, but I've heard of engines being unstuck with...
You can get GAA from Spruce Mt. Surplus:

The grease in the cavity may be a waste, but I did it... Don't overdo it either... I read somewhere that if the rollers are constantly trying to pump grease out from between them that that can contribute to...
I personally wouldn't want to risk opening a cooling system can of worms...
Saturn has surplus caps with the chain on them, that's where I got mine.

I'd be interested in reading that, any way to post it? I bought my truck from a private party and never read any of the "official" rules for transfer of ownership...

I have no experience with that product, but personally I would be very cautious using an oil additive on an engine where the injector pump is lubricated with engine oil... These pumps may be pretty tough, but I had a '66 Mercedes coupe, with Bosch mechanical fuel injection. (Not a throttle body...
A new front bumper, headlights, attaching the hood, and putting on a cab top would go a long way in the cosmetics department. I definitely see the potential, (to my girlfriend's dismay I always do), when you overlook the rust (which appears to be mostly surface rust) and missing parts, what you...
Heh heh, I thought the same thing... But I agree it's savable, and I love a fixer-upper. It runs, drives, and the crane works! Besides, the scavenger hunt for parts at MV boneyards is half the fun!
Jon
Yes, there is a return spring that hooks onto the linkage near the injection pump. The other end hooks onto a little tang with a hole in it on the pump itself. This spring is known to break...

I agree completely... Walker's here in Hesperia will sell a wheel with the tire still on it for $40, and as far as I'm concerned any damage to a split rim warrants replacement. I have a great respect for their destructive potential!

Eric -
I have Speedbleeders on my deuce, the correct part number is SB71620 (7/16-20 thread). They work great!
That said, I have since built a power bleeder from a garden sprayer, per Kenny's (recovry4x4) design shown in this thread...
I'd love to, it sounds like fun! That's one of the reasons I'm proud to have a deuce. However, mine is sort of in the middle of it's restoration. It's painted desert camo, and I've been sanding and primering little dots of rust and other rough spots in the paint in preparation for painting to...
Big Mike-
I did my rear axle seals earlier this year... The bearings looked good to me so I cleaned and reused them. (Like an idiot, I didn't do wheel cylinders and now one is leaking... grrr!) When I went for a test drive I noticed one hub was hotter than the others - like you describe - a...
