Won a civilian welder this week from a VA VDOT auction. Lincoln 250 AC/DC

Nice score Jerry! Can't wait to see more pics once you get it in your possession. You guys are luck to live close to GL sites, up here in RI they very seldom auction off anything good that is near by.... I always have to drive 7 hours or more each way.... cause I'm too cheap to ship stuff...

    Bio-Heat/ Bio-Diesel

I used to make boidiesel at home and used it in my backhoe and home heating furnace. I only washed what I was going to use for engine fuel. You have to wash it to remove left over soap and methanol from the reaction process. But even clean biodiesel is an excellent solvent so the problem you run...

    MEP-003 update

Sounds like we have another happy MEP owner to add to the growing list....:goodjob: Lets see one of those orange and black genny's from Homer's local home improvement store perform like that.... all while screaming at 3600 RPM, with it's insanely loud ( and mysteriously not sound rated) muffler...

Anyone ever lined their MEP002/3 with Automotive Thermal Insulation Mat Material?

Wow! excellent work there 95blklsc, both mechanically and electrically, nice looking unit! That's what I'm talking about... you need a full enclosure if you plan to make any significant sound reduction. To further reduce your sound level from 69db by another 6 to 10db is going to be a monumental...

    MEP-003A glow plugs

According to their web site, the bits are still made in Germany. Rodman is apparently the exclusive U.S distributor.... I looked around on ebay and what not and didn't find anything similar out there. Only carbide tip masonry bits which aren't comparable for drilling steel.

Anyone ever lined their MEP002/3 with Automotive Thermal Insulation Mat Material?

I've used similar material as well and yes, its great stuff, but for what you are trying to do I really don't think you will see much of any significant reduction in overall sound by just applying it to the fan cover. You will only be covering 1 end of the motor , which in essence is a 6 sided...

    MEP-003A glow plugs

Jerry, Probably should have mentioned that I did buy my drills at the "Big E" fair in Springfield Mass. 25 years ago, but now need a couple chipped bits replaced and I lost ( or should I say someone ELSE lost ) the 4 smallest sizes on me. So Rodman will sell me replacements through mail order...

    ammeter frequency and voltage gauges

Excellent work Jimc, they look great! Too bad they weren't available a few months ago, I would have went with yours instead of the Hardy Diesel one I ended up with when one of my Hz transducers went haywire. Most likely I will still be interested in getting some gages from you, since they are so...

Anyone ever lined their MEP002/3 with Automotive Thermal Insulation Mat Material?

Hello Johnray. Are you talking about lining the engine/fan cover on a non-ASK machine? If so I don't think it would be worth your time and effort. Simply covering the inside of the fan cover will probably do little or nothing towards reducing sound because it only covers the end of the motor...

    MEP-003A glow plugs

Hi Storeman, It says trade shows only, but I just called them about replacing a few bits under warranty and they will sell me individual bits ( because I lost a couple ) They gave me a price over the phone and I'm sending a small order along with 4 bits I need replaced under warranty. The web...

    MEP-003A glow plugs

Yea, I typed it manually instead of cut and paste... guess I messed something up:shrugs: Here's the link to the 13 pc. bit set, or other sets are available. http://www.rodmanandcoinc.com/rodmanandcoinc.com/category69d6.html?UCIDs=1307321%7C1307323 sometimes a bit pricey, but lifetime warranty...

    MEP-003A glow plugs

I'd try drilling, heating, cooling, then heating again and easy out. Try the easy outs that are a tapered square shape with 4 sharp edges as opposed to the left hand tapered twist type. If the remaining wall of the glow plug is thin, the left hand twist ones tend to expand the diameter, thus...

    MEP004A 15 kw Questions

Yes, I was also just about to say the samething.... be careful talking about upcoming auction events, it's against the rules, so don't go into any more detail. The best I can imagine is that they used a single, universal amperage / altitude / temp tag on all models (With the ASK, since the tag...

    MEP004A 15 kw Questions

Gordon, are the tags you are showing from the unit you want to buy next?? looking at that tag shown it is a J.R Hollingsworth 60hz MEP-004A, not a 400Hz MEP-113A. I think I'm getting confused as to which pictures are of your current unit and which are the unit you want to buy. Your last set of 3...

    MEP004A 15 kw Questions

Looks like a universal data plate. You can't produce both 400hz and 50/60hz from the same machine. I believe that data plate was used on both -004A and -113A in addition to another data plate. There should also be another one listing the model number, manufacturer, date of manufacture...

    MEP004A 15 kw Questions

Hello Gordon, welcome to the forum. I think I know what you are talking about with the 50-60hz/400Hz dataplate. I've seen data plates that indicate the weight of the generator that list both the weight of a 50/60hz and a 400hz machine, but there is another data plate on the machine that tells...

Has anyone here used this tool?

A couple years ago my wife bought me a HF ball joint press for Christmas. First time I tried using it ( Ford F350 ball joints ) the P.O.S bent and I had to return it. Now I have an OTC which is made out of hardened steel (powder coated in a silver/aluminum color ) and it will take all the force...

    MEP-002a / 003a Owner survey?

I've got 3 002's ( built between 85' and 89') and they all have it. In the TM page DieselBob showed it looks like it might be an integral part to the back plate, but in other images of the TM it shows a flat back plate and no drip pan under the filter housing.... Maybe there were 2 different...

Can you get scratches out of semigloss OD?

The problem you're going to run into is that typically the only way to remove the scratches is to color sand ( 1500 grit ) and buff them out with compound and a buffer.... however, on a semi gloss finish this will also turn that area into a gloss finish. aua The only possibility I can think of...
