He would not come off of 4200 for a deuce with no bed on it. He said it ran perfectly and he was going to put a drop side bed on it. I tried a few times to buy it. To make a long story short, he did not get it marked and it is part of a deuce and 5 ton sandwich now. He said it was his fault...
My original was a M1008 and I loved it, even if I never ran over 50 with it. Unfortunatley a nurse ran a red light and creamed it for me. I am just glad everybody was okay. A few years later I bought the second M1008, I feel lucky to have found one this solid. I drove it everyday until I bought...
It is hard to beat a 4.56 gear down by running a taller tire. A 50" tire with no sidewall flex will give you 71 mph at 2200 rpm. Not sure what kind of body-chassis-lift-fender trimming that takes to fit.
The early Dodge 4x4 Cummins trucks had 3.08 gear ratios in the Dana 60. Other than that...
Governed to hit 4000 rpm with no load and 3600 with a full load, I must say, that is absolutely screaming for a 6.2. They peak on torque at a relatively low 2000 rpm, anything beyond that rpm is just beating on the engine. Sure, you can run 3000 and may get away with it for 30-40-50 thousand...
Three grand for a good running 5-ton winch truck that looks decent to boot, sounds great to me.... all I need is a phone number... :-D Like the others, I would want the title problems ironed out.
I know if it is 1949 or newer in Kansas, I would not buy it without a good title, unless it was for parts.... A dealer can get a title on a bill of sale if it has no Kansas history, is older than 1975 and is not listed as stolen in NCIC. I am not sure how the passing of the "government papers"...
The drivelines etc are much stronger than the diesel that somes in it. The fuel pumps on these are kind of weak, relatively speaking. They are also about a quarter of the price as a Cummins pump. They are simple too, nothing tough about working on the 6.2.... except maybe that lift pump...
I would pay him the title fees and tell him you will take it after he has it registered. There are ways to get a title in a lot of states, but most of them are not really cheap and some require multiple inspections and a lot of time. Title problems can be a real hassle. Glen
Frequently you can find 6.2 engines on Ebay for less than 1000 dollars. Most will be Humvee exchanges.
If your engine failed because of continuous high rpm operation and that is the way you use your truck, I would do the 350 swap. They can stand the rpm a lot better than a 6.2 can, anything...
I used four wheel drive today....was sure glad I had it. Otherwise it would have been a hike home with two dogs and one leash. It was nothing like this though. Glen
With either truck you will learn to slow down for speed bumps and large potholes. To answer your question, they are much tougher than 95 percent of the vehicles going down those road snow. I doubt this will be an issue for you as you will soon learn it hurts you physically to hit a roadway...

We just went through a similar thread. My old M1008 would get very close to 20 mpg. This much lower miles and in much better condition M1008 that I have now runs 15 to 18 mpg. I just made a fairly long trip and we averaged around...
They all have 4.56 except the M1009 or Blazer, those are 3.08. A 12 valve would be awesome in a CUCV and you can probably find the proper adapter to run the original transmission. Glow plug issues are probably the most common, followed closely by fuel issues. They are bad about leaking down...
I originally wanted to do a shortened deuce bed on a bobbed M818 chassis. After running across an M813 a few months ago and seeing the M817 on 1600s last weeend, I am inclined to build a nice clean close to original truck on singles. I like the look and the truck would still be easy to restore...
What have these trucks been bringing lately? I know of a couple that were close to 5K after buyer's fees and taxes. The one I saw, I would have been very proud to own. At any rate, I had been looking for a M818, but now I think a 5 ton cargo truck would suit my desires just as well. Any advice...
Nice looking truck.... I also like the paint scheme and the blasting caps hazmat placards. I suppose the one that does not like it does not get to drive it! They will be sorry when you are busting the drifts with ease....
