I thought you said you were going manual valvebody? If this is the case you dont need a computer...just a manual valvebody. May want to consider a vacuum modulator mod so you dont have full line pressure all the time. Also a lockup converter is better then none.

Is the cover leaking? If not dont bother pulling it, just use a pump to pull the old out. Unless you think it is full of metal or you plan on retorquing the caps. Otherwise you are just making a mess that smells like dirty bums.

Yeah everything up here turns to junk after about 10 years on the road.
Your best bet is to get a complete set up. Its cheaper but then all you really need is a harness, headers, motor mounts, etc.
It gets pricey trying to source stuff like sensors. Just tracking down a transmission inspection...

Yeah I think having a manual switch is hokey. That is fine on a race car not on a street driven vehicle. No different then having to manually switch on a fuel pump or cooling fan rather then wiring it correctly. Can it be done yes, is it right, probably not.

Yes but the ECM still needs to know when it is in low range since a 2.7 or 1.9:1 ratio change occurs from the trans output to the tcase tailshaft. It cant guess, when the ratios dont match it goes into limp mode or throw a DTC.
