8D is a good sized battery (big) and I had to put one in my backhoe without the nice little handholds on it. Going in wasn't so bad, getting the old one out of the tight space was.
Solution for the too high is put it on blocks. Solution for outside is a tarp. I had to do the same thing for a couple years on my backhoe before Gimpy made me fix the alternator. Haven't had to do that in quite a while now.
Or just get two or 4 group 31 blemish batteries at Interstate or...
A. Does the truck start okay? If so do a normal PM for a sealed battery. ;-)
B. You don't have to pull a battery to charge it by itself. You could just disconnect it in the truck and charge it.
The truck in my pickup is the original. 11 years and 13 days since I bought it. If a battery...
Wait, you took advice from San Francisco Dave, The Beef King (mwmules) and you still bought a truck? :-)
Good luck and have fun on the trip. Like was mentioned, sign up for the SS Express Shipping Program and help offset some fuel cost.
SS Express Shipping - When it absolutely...
If you go to Amazon and look the KATS heaters up you will see a two outlet thermostat controlled switch for "farm" use. I have one and it turns the outlets on at 40deg F and stays on until it gets above 40.
That being said I wouldn't ever get one of the mag heaters greater than the 200W...
They work and I have used them on trucks and my backhoe. I suggested the 200W because the 300W is what melted on the bottom of both my vehicles.
Heating the oil pan works just fine and especially in this area.
Try this:

Slap it on the bottom of the oil pan and run an extension cord out to it.
Since Gimpy and I just did a roadside recovery I thought I'd interject my thoughts.
Friday after Christmas around rush hour on I75 southbound. Not the best place to be working.
Already mentioned is getting over to the right as far as possible. Shouldn't need to be said but stay on the side...
As per my PM the 300W almost burned my Deuce and backhoe up. The case melted and smoked up the oil pans.
The 200Watt may work.
I just order a couple of cheap quartz heaters for under each one now from Northern Tool. $17 each. Since the vehicles are inside the barn they should do just fine.
