    Build Year Location

Will, I would not be surprised if that number (M25420) should be stamped on the right frame rail - as well as a specific date. That number is also consistant with 1952 Studebaker production on contract DA-11-022 ORD 367. This would mean that the truck was built as a gasser. Do you see any...

    Build Year Location

    Here is my info: VIN # 04H 92871 0539 12041 Contract # DAAE 06 70 C 0001 I assume this is a 1970? The contract was issued in 1970, this particular truck was delivered in 1971, I would think in the middle of the year. VIN# 4K1526 14405 NSN # 2320 00 077 1616 NO CONTRACT # I found 19...

    Build Year Location

Well, this in fact is a very exciting truck to hear about. I've looked at well over 1000 M35-type trucks, and this is the ONLY truck I've heard of that has a 07 series number! It is also the only one I have seen with a 1979 contract number. So this has given me considerable information to base...

    Build Year Location

Lynden, Post the VIN off of the frrame rail,as well as the army registration number (USA or Hood number) and I can tell you the year. You can't trust the contract date - as it often took years to fullfil a contract. With just the VIN I can get close. I'll only be at the computer briefly today...

    Kaiser jeep or Am General

From my recent MVM article "In February 1970, Kaiser-Jeep was purchased by American Motors Corporation. On March 26, 1970, Kaiser-Jeep became the Jeep Corporation. The South Bend facilities were part of the General Products Division. Just over a year later, on March 31, 1971, the General...

Starting Wisconsin MV Club or affiliate

RE: Great The MMVA is not affiliated with the MVPA (ie, not a "chapter"), although many of their members are MVPA members. I am able to attend only one meeting per year (since I live in Tennessee) - but it is always a high point of my MV year. The group is very family oriented, and very...

    M602, modified M35

The Norwegian trucks with the lockers weren't M602, they were classified the M621. The locker-equipped truck was powered by a naturally aspirated Multifuel, whereas the M602 was a gasser. Knucklehead has this one pinned precisely. Best wishes, David Doyle

    got a expandable van(292A2)

Wade, Yep, I have one of these. It looks like the heater and AC have been pulled from yours - due to asbestos there was a MWO a few years ago on this removal. Mine lost its AC and heat at that time, but I am putting them back in. Kenny has already given you the info on the M4 body. Regards, David

    got a expandable van(292A2)

Wade, Congratulations on your new toy! It will be tough to find a smoother riding deuce than the M292A2. Beware, with the wind drag of that big sail, she's a tad bit slower than a cargo truck. Do me a favor, if you think about it. Once you get the truck, tell me the shape of the rear window...

    Decals or Paint

Self-adhesive letters, numbers, and stars were authorized by the Army in the 1960s - so either paint or adhesive letters are "correct". I've used both - and the paint weathers better (my trucks live outside). In either event, study the appropriate manual before ordering the stencils or lettering...

    so what does X mean?

X indicates that it has not yet been type classified by the Ordnance Committee. T designates experimental in vehicles. X in aircraft is experimental. Hence, the T41 experimental tank became the M41, while the XP-51 Mustang became the P-51 (later F-51) fighter. Hope this helps, David Doyle

    what does the "C" mean?

Re: RE: what does the "C" mean? What do you mean?

    what does the "C" mean?

The answer is really easier than one may think. The main thing to remember is that the suffixes cannot be applied across the board - rather they are unique to each vehicle model (IE A M35A3 has a Cummins and an automatic, whereas the M109A3 has a Multifuel and a manual tranny.) As various minor...

    When Multi?

To ford with a horizontal exhaust (either gas or Multifuel) an extension pipe is added to the exhaust (there is a flange on the end of the tail pipe for this. I SUSPECT it was to keep fumes from the troops - but have yet to confirm this through documentation. The vertical exhaust LD-465 also...

Original Color of the M543 Wrecker

The black on the frame of the M135 family of vehicles is not paint - it was applied via a process called Bonderizing - which was pattened by Ford Motor Company (who evidently then licensed it). It is possible that the five tons were given a similar treatment. I've got a copy of the first...

    When Multi?

Yep, the LD-465 originally had horizontal exhaust, later changed to vertical. I've got a couple of the LD-465 with horizontal. DD

    When Multi?

The vertical exhaust, naturally aspirated engine I THINK came out in 1969 - still trying to prove this. Probably have enough data - just not enough time to sort it out! DD

    1952 Studebaker V18A/MTQ

Marcus, I'll tell you where the yard is as best I can (not being from the area) - it is East of Lowes. Drive in front of Lowes, just beyond it there is an intersection, turn right. This new road then bends sharply to the left, roughly paralleling the interstate - a half-mile or so along the way...

    1952 Studebaker V18A/MTQ

Darn Marcus, Wish I'd thought about your location - I spent most of the week at Lost in the Woods! Jon, In Rolla, MO, (about 20 miles from Marcus) at a scrap yard visible from the interstate, is a V18A/MTQ - or the remains of one. It belongs to Warren Dean - but its NOT at his place. It has...
