Deep cycles are designed to be brought from fully charged to discharged (actually 50% if you want them to last) where a starting battery is designed for short high amperage draws. Has to do with the number and thickness of the lead plates. Both will work and interchange but a starting battery...
You should run a matching pair of standard starting batts. Deep cycles have no reason in a standard Cuck. Unless you are doing some serious winching or running them down all the time, starting batts only. Even if you are, a hybrid like a yellow top (which I despise) would be a good compromise.

If you have the coin (which is not much because frontend parts are super cheap on these rigs), I would take a weekend and freshen up the entire front end. That means all new steering and balljoints, repack/adjust wheel bearings, and have it aligned. You can try and do one piece at a time but...
Make sure water is not getting in through the filler cap.
Since we are talking a small amount of fuel, I would dump that tank and fill it with fresh. New filter and maybe some biocide. Anything short of that is going to make you pull your hair out.
