Fuel System Troubleshooting and final resolution (IT WAS THE SOCK)

Picture of the box with the part number of the pump I'm using. There's no vent on the top of it, and the inlet is facing 180* off. These are the two differences compared to the pump I removed. I ordered this one. Had I put eyes on it, I would have bought one that was an exact match.

Fuel System Troubleshooting and final resolution (IT WAS THE SOCK)

I replaced the soft line from the last hard line on the frame rail to the fuel pump inlet. I took the genset and a set of slave cables over to it. It's running! Tomorrow in daylight I'll police up around it real well and make sure i got all the tools picked up and drive it the 7 miles to...

Fuel System Troubleshooting and final resolution (IT WAS THE SOCK)

The fuel line worked pretty well. A hacksaw blade was what the paperwork that came with the pump recommended.

Fuel System Troubleshooting and final resolution (IT WAS THE SOCK)

Three different part numbers are given as being equivalent. This was the one with 0030 in it (memory). Wrong pump was my first thought. But the hard outlet line lined up perfectly. The soft line wouldn't be an issue other than it isn't where it was and there's insufficient slack to make the...

Fuel System Troubleshooting and final resolution (IT WAS THE SOCK)

New pump is not exactly like the old pump. No breather (presumably not needed) and the fuel inlet is facing the wrong way. Pump is mounted. Hard line is connected. Contemplating ways to make a 180* turn to connect the soft line. The drive rod from the cam is truly cursed. Getting it up and...

Wanted: Wrecker issued hammers/snatch blocks/crosscut saw

Concur. Andy in IN is getting a couple of 14.00s from me at some point. That might facilitate something. Or not. No big deal. Just making options available.

Fuel System Troubleshooting and final resolution (IT WAS THE SOCK)

Since this thread is now something of a repository of fuel system info, above is the video showing lift pump replacement including the plate. The two fuel pump bolts are 7/16. The threaded fuel hose nut is 5/8. I'm an idiot and left the switch on so it's stranded where I left it and I'm...

Wanted: Wrecker issued hammers/snatch blocks/crosscut saw

I think I've got the snatch blocks. Pics this evening.

Fuel System Troubleshooting and final resolution (IT WAS THE SOCK)

I've done a 350 Chevy, but it's been like 40 years ago. I intend to watch a video on this one before I attempt it. I hope not to do anything stupid. Your input helps in this. I'd like to not remove that second plate if I can help it. I'm thinking maybe a flexible piece of plastic to hold the...

Fuel System Troubleshooting and final resolution (IT WAS THE SOCK)

That's where I'm at. $40 and it isn't like a new lift pump is a bad thing. It doesn't look hard to reach. I generally dislike diagnosis by throwing parts at it, but I've looked at every thing else. I'll update this when the new one is on. Thanks everyone who contributed.

Fuel System Troubleshooting and final resolution (IT WAS THE SOCK)

Nothing comes out. It took some cranking (as if it had lost prime) to get it running, then it loped for a few seconds and then smoothed out and ran normally with the vent hose removed. I set the high idle and let it run at a guessed 2000rpm for a while. I disengaged the high idle. Then I closed...

Thanks. Checking the oil for fuel should give me a definitive diagnosis then.

Fuel System Troubleshooting and final resolution (IT WAS THE SOCK)

So I replaced the soft lines and started the truck. Starts and runs fine, just like it has been doing. This time I expected it to crap out after running for a few minutes, so I drove it in circles in the field. Sure enough, after just a couple of minutes of acting normal, it acted starved...

looking for real on road weight specs for a m1102 trailer ?

In real-world conditions you're going to hit the limit on the tires first. I took one behind my pickup, loaded with as many 395's on steel MRAP rims as I could get in it across TX at 80mph without issue.

Fuel System Troubleshooting and final resolution (IT WAS THE SOCK)

Ok, looking at the lines coming out of the tank. I've got two soft lines between the hard lines coming out of the tank and the hard lines going forward. This is where I'd expect the check valves to be. Looks to me like someone already deleted them. Am i correct? The larger one shows some...

Hydraulic crimper. Accept no substitute. How long does the cable need to be? I may have something suitable. Yours if so.
