Best gen set for home backup.

Surge brakes. This is one reason you want them reasonably level.

Best gen set for home backup.

There's a genset specific version that doesn't typically bring the high prices that the hmmwv cargo version brings.

Best gen set for home backup.

I've towed the M116A2 and the M1102 variants with a jeep wrangler. The light issue is most easily solved with flat four compatible magnetic lights.

Best gen set for home backup.

The M116A2s are OK, but I like the M1102 chassis variants even more. I'd suggest you'll be happy with either one.

Battery cutoff using Nato slave plug

I believe the rating is 550 amps constant. It's still a bad idea. You've set a trap for someone with a slave cable. Connecting a slave cable to it will get you >1500 amp dead short. I'd suggest putting your battery cut off in the small compartment inside the battery box.

1200lb safe Groton CT to storage nearby

Yeah, but... Liftgate services, and appointment required. And the carriers just don't have a good track record. Last time it took them a month after getting paid before they made pickup. I was concerned about it getting declared abandoned. I'd rather one of ours grab it and drop it at the...

1200lb safe Groton CT to storage nearby

Can anybody pick up a safe in Groton and move it to a storage facility nearby or maybe the freight terminal? It's on a standard pallet and about 60" high. @Suprman

    Which trailer to buy?

I think they come up in yermo occasionally also.

    Which trailer to buy?

An M1101/1102 isn't really big enough for your desired usage. And since they're HMMWV compatible they attract high prices. The M105A2 is robust and cheap. The M1061 is bigger and lower and usually about the same $ as an M105A2. The M1082 is newer and very nice, except the deck height is a...

    Hmmwv reliability

Sample size of one... But I've driven mine from KS to AZ to FL to KS to IL to WY... @simp5782 has ridden in it in TN. @RGS20inophir has spent 700 miles or so in the (admittedly uncomfortable) passenger seat. @lindsey97, @AndyAK and @silverstate55 have all ridden in it. And all I've done to...

    Two silly oil change questions...

What's your opinion on warming it at idle to operating temp every 3 weeks vs letting it sit untouched all winter?

    Two silly oil change questions...

I'm not so sure starting it and warming it is a good idea. Despite the fact that coolant reaches operating temps, without a load on it the internal components don't really get hot. In generators, this practice causes wet stacking. My MV's also hide from salt over the winter. I put them away...

    24 Volt battery maintainer?

Which one did you use from Amazon? What did it do?

Geared hub drain plug removal advice

Im I'm reluctant to use a welder for this. You never know where you might manage to arc across a bearing or between gear teeth inadvertently and introduce a point for accelerated wear.

    Batteries

Best? Hawkers, and by a large margin. Best, when you factor in cost? Any decent battery will suffice.

    Fire extinguisher size?

I think it's smaller in diameter than my bracket is designed for. I've used fire extinguishers twice in my life. 2.5lbs is really insufficient for the task. We carry 2.5kbs x2 in the gladiator now, since i used the single 2.5 pounder last summer. My HMMWV needs one. I'd like to find one that...

    Differential options

Emphatically this! I like selectable lockers. But the stock M998 when used with compence won't get stuck due to lack of a locker. I contemplate a Detroit locker for the mid axle on my M925, but again, I've had it in soupy mud spinning all 6 16.00's. I doubt I'll encounter a situation where...

    Fire extinguisher size?

    Fits the existing bracket?

    M920 running used oils

Some of the abrasives in used oil are smaller than 2 microns and will still do damage. I wouldn't do it.

    Rear winch suggestions

You could also power it by going to the slave port. Although an Anderson SB350 connector is less expensive than a slave plug. May as well use 2/0 (or even 4/0) cable.
